Default a teg needing some SQ

alright i need your help/advice.
my car is a 2000 integra gs, i need to get a new deck and am looking to upgrade the stock speakers all around.
i have a sub, but its only used in the winter to weigh my *** end down.
so what are the stock speaker size?
either then upgrading the stock locations, are extra 6x9's really needed?
i am looking to have not the best greatest newest audio system, but something fairly great without massive doller bill sacrifice.
How is the alpine Type-r line, as well as the headunits?
thanks ahead of time.

If you are not looking to spend alot for speakers look at Pioneer, Eclipse, and Alpine coaxials. The size of the speakers is 6.5" for the front and rear. As far as a headunit look I recommend the Alpine 9856 or the 9857.

say i was to get alpine type-x 6.5's all around. will a main deck power them?
or do i need some extra love?
i am basically wanting real-good/almost perfect sound -(minus) a sub/box/amp.
meaning light-weight music. but do i need a small speaker amp or the right deck or both?

How much work are you prepared to put into this "high end/lightweight" system?

Do you have the tools, [and ability] to do some woodworking?

Although the Alpine type x speakers are pretty good they are an over-sized 6.5" speaker, your teg uses a standard 6.5" speaker, the differance being the mounting hole diameter, the standard 6.5" speaker uses a 5" mounting hole, that is the mounting hole in your tegs speaker housing, [doors] and speaker mounting plate, [rears], the Alpine type x mounting holes are bigger, also mounting depth is an issue.

There are a number of factors that will determine SQ, [a good sounding system], first on the list is the source, [head unit/CD player (HU)], take your time picking it, make sure it has the capability/features that you want/need, EG; I know you said no sub but is it something you may want later? If so then make sure HU has a sub out.
How about an iPod, [or other MP3 player] do you have one, would you like to be able to play it through the cars system? If so make sure the HU you pick has the capability.

There are a few very good HUs out there and Alpine is one of them, [it is what I have and would recommend], I have a 94LS with a "light-weight music" system, [Alpine CDA-7893 and 4 Eclipse speakers] no subs or off-board amps.

Next would be speakers, you will need good speakers to get good SQ, however without a proper speaker install no matter how good the speakers are the SQ will not be up to the speakers capability, [in other words, it will suck].

There are many more good speakers brands then there are HU brands out there, Alpine type x is one of them also Eclipse, Infinity, MB Quart, JL Audio and a few others, then there are the very good speakers like Dynaudio and Hertz and a few others, [all very expensive]. I would recommend the Eclipse SP6500... http://www.eclipse-web.com/point/sp6500.html or the Eclipse SE8264... http://www.eclipse-web.com/component/sc8264.html if you have stock component speakers, [tweeter location].

And an amp would be needed unless you go with a basic 2way coax speaker, [less power handling. 94

Feel free to IM me if you have questions.

Yea the Eclipse speakers are good. and you have a good sub there. What Alpine HU are you considering? And I would recommend a 4 ch. amp for the coaxials and a mono amp for your sub.

Yes Eclipse speakers are very good for the price,.

What amp are you using to drive the sub?

I would definitely go with an amp if you want to use the Eclipse point source, you don't really need one if your just going with the 3ways, BTW the point source 2ways are a much better speaker then the 3ways. 94

k so on ebay right now the sc8264 are just under 300 shipped for 2 of them.
and the sp6500 are around 150 shipped for 2.... Canadian funds.
im thinking the sp6500's are going to be the way to go, cause if i get the pimp ones im going end up spending more on an amp to.... i dont want to go all out, but kinda do haha. well see, id like to have everything well before spring so i have time.

As for my woofer i have some halfass kenwood amp, it works. i only use the sub in the winter. not looking to go crazy with a sub.

Also on the headunit situation i was looking at the cda-9857 for only 350 cad shipped on ebay. But then today at work, this kid was like buy my indash dvd, its a panasonic worth 1900 i guess. for like 600... its out of a trade-in(i work for dealerships) and the used car manager just sells the **** off for cheap. so i want to see what it looks like and hook it up in my car to see if it works before giving him a dollar. but think its worth it? i mean does a indash dvd have a decent EQ and all that funstuff? or should i just get a regular deck. Also opinions on the pioneer/premier decks. model DEH-P980BT. i currently have a pioneer deck, and i really like the EQ it has.
your advice and help is well appreciated btw.

alright i just check panasonic, im 98% sure its this one http://www2.panasonic.com/weba...Tab=S
they sell on ebay for like 650 shipped. so price is alright.
Oh and there is also the slight risk of the deck having a 4 digit security code...

I had the Alpine 9856 and now have the 9857. Only thing I don't like is the fact that the buttons dont change color like the older models. Or since you already have experience with a Pioneer HU then get one that has the features that you want. Personally I would stay away from Panasonic.

ahh i had alot of faith in the alpine decks. until reading some peoples response to them.
there its lots of hate on the new alpine decks, most of what ive seen saying the EQ sucks ****!
ahh that sucks, i was stoked on the alpine HU.
i really do think im going to go the pioneer/premier high end HU route...
think i need an amp for the eclipse 6500's?
or will the minor underpower straight from theHU matter?

Yeah this years Alpine units are not as good as previous years but I am an Alpine guy myself. Pioneer units are great as I either have a Pioneer HU or a Alpine HU in my car. But next years Alpine lineup will be good, or so I have heard...........

For the price Panasonic is a good deal, the warranty return rate on Panasonic is is very low 2nd only to Alpine, it is very dependable with pretty good SQ.

Keep in mind a "flip out" DVD in a teg. will be an issue, [shape of dash].

Alpine, IMO, still makes the best HU out there, Alpines focus on "fully loaded" HUs, [like my CDA-7893] has changed to more basic HUs, none of the new Alpine HUs have "EQs", so I am not sure how anyone can complain about them, even time correction has been dropped from all but the IVA-D310, ["flip out" DVD] although most still have "Bass Engine" sound tuning, [Bass Engine Plus in the IVA-D310].

Alpine is still the best selling and most trouble free HU that our chain sells.

I would still look at an amp to drive the Eclipse SP6500, they are 60W continuous 180W max, [4x75W RMS] the SC8264 are 85W/250W.

Replace the stock plastic speaker housing, [doors] and metal speaker mounting bracket, [rears] with custom MDF speaker housing, [doors] and mounting plate, [rears] do some Dynamating, [or the like] do not use tweeter on the rears, add the 4x75W amp and you will have a very good sounding system with great SQ, and surprisingly good bass response. 94
