i have 4 pioneer 6.5' 4way 220watts peak with 50rms each hooked up to the cd receiver thats a cheap 49.99 receiver from frys electronics made by jensen. What im asking is that if i put better speaker wire like 16 14 12 10 guage? will it sound better and give me more bass? the receiver is 200 watts with 50x4 mosfet.
no, not for that head... unless the wires are corroded...
You see, that is 50 peak per channel, which is like 15-17 rms if your lucky on a GOOD headunit usually... Your best bet is to find an amp that can match your speaker RMS, preferably 4 channel, unless you want a sub.. then 5..
You could use 2 channel, but you will have only FR fade.. or LR balance function.
EDIT: also Im sure that if you got a GOOD head.. it would sound better, but I think the amp would work best if it can be hooked up to that head.

thanks man, because i know my speakers can sound better than what they sound like now, i mean all together just my 6'5s are 200 watts RMS together if i had a amp powering them right, how about if i get a 2 channel amp for subs, and another 2 channel amp for the 6'5s?

i was wondering the same thing..i have the same speaker but i have a pioneer headunit...im to lazy to run to my car and check..but it was like $300...anyways i have it in my crx...and i figure i dont really need a sub...but the thing is that my HU is 50x4 so i was wondering if adding a amp to all 4 will make them sound any better then they are now or will it just be a waste of money

well what kind of speakers do you have? powering them with an amp if they have better rms than it might sound better.

well your HU is gonna be 50x4 peak power so getting an amp will definately make an improvement in the sound. right now your speakers are probably only getting 15-20Wrms so to move up to something thats lets say 75x2 (for the front speakers only) will make a huge improvement.
for the thread creator, i'd recommend getting a new HU as the first step. even with an amp i'd question the output quality of that HU. start with a decent high power alpine, pioneer or whatever you like better and then if you dont like the sound look into getting an amp. changing the speaker wires isnt going to give you any gains unless they were poorly done from the begining.

dont forget, if your running that headunit, it might not have RCA cables... which means you would need a speaker level amp... yet again if the signal as beforementioned is bad, the distortion can harm the speakers, and who knows the HU might harm the amp.... If someone was looking for biggest gains in order... I would have to say... HU with good RMS, kenwood has 22 per channel... then speakers, then amp... if you have cheaper HU with less RMS, then Id say HU, Amp, Speakers. just be sure gain is way down.

hmm so what kind of amp would that be, because the Hu has rca's but it says CD IN which i dont think goes to an amp, where could i find that type of amp with speaker level?

i'd say now is the time to switch HU's. its better to have the flexibility to begin with than have to worry about line converters or speaker level inputs. do it once, do it right.
