superghettofabuloussubmount!
OK, so i just installed a beaks tie bar this afternoon after i got home from school. After i did my hw, i wanted to wrench more, but i didnt think i had anything to do. I then remembered the sub box sitting in the corner of my room with my 2 10 inch pioneers and my 800 watt sony amp... the reason they were just sitting there was because i didnt know where to mount them in my hatch (bare metal tub behind the rear seats) and i was too laizy and burnt out (tuesday is 35 days not high, congradulate me!) to make something up. I decided that i was going to make it work with what i had in my garage before i went to bed (this was at about 10:00). Now its midnight and im sitting here typing with a grin on my face knowing i made the most ghetto platform in the history of platform making. I started with a piece of Styrofoam and cut it to fit the back half of my hatch (my piece of wood was only wide enough to cover half the hatch) and then traced it onto the piece of wood and cut it out. I did a **** job cutting it but it fit pretty snug anyway. i then used a piece of electrical fence wiring (***** strong!) threaded through the spare tire mount on the bottom of the hatch and wrapped around the piece of wood to keep it in place. I pulled the carpet over the wood so it looked like i had a solid floor and then used those L shaped things with the holes in them to bolt the box down to the wood through the carpet. I had the subs facing the front of the car and because the back of the box is on an angle it fits very snugly with the hatch. I havn't hooked up the amp yet because i got too tired and i would have to run a power source from the battery through a fuse i dont have...
anyway, ill post some pics up some time soon. im gonna be pretty busy with school over the next couple of days, but ill find time!
????????
one problem... turns out the wire wasnt enough to keep the box from rocking back and forth and with the way i drive theres no way it will stay in place that way. anyone have any suggestons on how to secure the piece of wood down?

Will post pics soon! Just got the amp bolted up last night. I have been busy with school and work lately and all my free time has been spent wrenching. Maybe after i'm done procrastinating Ill do my home work and maybe after that I can have time to post some pics.

my amp coming loose already because I was too lazy to take my seat apart and screw a nut into the other side of the bolt... It will happen soon i promise!

Bracket i used to mount the side of the amp that is not falling off. It was a flat piece of metal with four holes. Two were drilled into the seat at the high point of the metal backing, and the other two hung over the low point, one of which was used to bolt the amp to. I hope you understood that description..

hole on the side that is falling off

end of wood pieces that are holding the sub box up. I wish i had taken pics while i was putting it together, next time i take it apart ill take pics...

and my beutiful new ctr shift boot that i just had to show off!

Its not wired up yet because i dont have a power source or a fuse for that power source. Im going after school tomorrow to take care of both these problems. don't mind my cars dirtiness, I havent cleaned it in a while, its been a laizy winter...
let me know what you think!
if you use the correct type of screws you can mount the amp straight to the seat and it wont fall off. also your subs are facing the wrong way, and did yours not come with the trim rings?

From my experience, you get more boom with the subs facing backward. An installer told me that the plastic and glass reflect more sound than the padded seat...I'm not sure how true that is but it seemed to be true when I had my sub. The floor in my hatch is old plywood, lol

what kind of screws allow me to do that??
thanks for the info on the sub direction...
I never understoon why people made the subs faceing backwards, and now i do!
if you cant tell, im new with car audio...

The proper way is to screw a piece of wood (sized slightly larger than the amp's footprint) to the seat (between the seat back & carpet preferably), then mount the amp to the wood.
so your saying that the carpet will hold up the sub and the wood?? I dont know if mycarpet would put up with that... hell its worth a try!
No, he means mount the wood to the seat back, under the carpet then mount the amp to the wood, [through the carpet] the idea is to isolate the amps chassis from the cars chassis, [ground]. 94
I was in the same boat as you when it came time to install my sound. However I only wanted 1x12" since that is good enough for me. Had a tube before but that took too much of my presious in my trunk and with my rear strut bar I was not able to use the trunk at all.
Once day I just decided to take the spare tire out and build the box in there out of MDF. Lot less messier and it would hit harder then if I were to build it out of fiberglass.
As you can see it turned out pretty good and with the seats folded down it's even so I can toss anything back there.....well not anything..lol.
Not finished yet cause I'm broke at the moment and need to get some carpet to complete it but it's pretty much there so for not it's painted till I find a JOB. I recommend you build an entire floor out of 1/2" plywood, can't remember the exact one but it's very light in color and it's on the pricy($13 for a 2'x4' sheet) side but they are lighter then most.
Oh yeah for those that might think having no spare is crazy well that is why we have friends
and the spare does not fit my car anymore anyways cause of the brakes.
