one of the most musical subs on the market BAR NONE imo - consider the price and it's a really nice choice! It's not an output machine though.

I'd highly recommend the IDQ15 if you want more output - it will do better with 500W.

The key here actually isn't the sub weight - it's going to be the weight of the enclosure that's going to kill you!

oh, and I've owned 5 of them - over three different occasions....

For front end, I already have an alpine f345 v12 amp and will probably go type r all the way around. I also have an good alpine deck. Im not worried about my highs, I just want good lows. As for music, I listen to hip-hop and a decent bit of rock. I will probably go with a sealed box because I want accuracy along with great bass. I probably should have said this in my first post.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by dc24me &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">sensitivity ratings are useless as most of them are measured at 1kHz.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Ok, so when I buy a pair of ID horns I should pay absolutely no attention to sensitivity and assume driving a pair of typical cone tweets/mids will be the same SPL when driving the horns?

The issue here is not that sensitivity in and of itself is useless.....it's the interpretation and use of this metric that is at issue. Sensitivity is almost always included in the top 5 specs for a speaker.....wrong or right.....it's included.

If I have a thin paper cone the sensitivity of that speaker is going to quite a bit higher than a speaker with a heavy cone.

Simply because most manufacturers measure the sensitivity at 1khz doesn't mean that one can't rely on a sensitivity metric. Let's say I'm a sub manufacturer and decide to measure it at 200hz....anything preventing me or anyone else from measuring this? Of course not. I would bet my salary that if I called ID and asked them to really give me some facts on sensitivity they'd be able to tell me a lot more of what's listed on their website. All the speaker stats (let's say Vas, Xmax, etc) are not just a happen-stance of speaker design and I "hey....let's see what the hell we get for these figures......I have no clue!". I with I could find the link but this is why you see at least one speaker manufacturer (sorry I can't find the name) will build you speakers to your specs.....you've got to know these variables inside and out, how they effect response, disperson patterns, etc. and at the end of the day hopefully have a chance to demo them.

I will be honest with you that I have never got into this detail about sensitivity....it's been kinda fun to be honest.

However......if you were to see a speaker with a sensitivity of 50 or 200....that would get your attention quick cause it's so abnormal....it would cause you to think. Not because you totally disagree w/ ablity of one to produce a meaningful stat on sensitivity......but because you'd be interested to see how it was measured. THEN you'd make your decision to either agree or disagree w/ their hypothesis about the speaker's sensitivity.

aren't we talking about subwoofers here? if so, sensitivity ratings at 1Khz are useless.

well I was going to post this couple days back but it does sound a bit odd that a sub manufacturer would measure a sub @ 1khz which is really outside of the frequency spectrum tht most people will be running it.

but, I'm going to defer to FCN/WRX on this topic.....I've taken a pledge to research before I post

exactly what i said in my mind when i read what he said about 10x the power.

2X the power and 2X the cone area??
&gt;&gt;not an accurate statement.....

if you listen to hiphop...

youll get good results with ported box....

sealed box are good too, but thats more for SQ...for faster response...

sealed boxes dont really go that low...ive heard some sealed box that will shake your car..but...that all depends on your setp...lookin like you wanna keep it light...

if the money aint a problem...

dd9112......

get one.....thats all you need...and a good ported box......

put about a good 1000w real power...youre golden...

if you want a little cheaper..
i guess you can get image dynamics..like they said..its a descent sub..
might wanna look at kickers too...the square subs....L7s..are aight..REs...
DD subs...

w7s are too much if you ask me....

theres a lot out there..

thats all depends with your budget...

if you need some real subs...let me know...

but you might not like it...its too heavy...about 70lbs a piece for a 12

It's not even what imadigitalgod quoted, he got it right.

However, "sealed box are good too, but thats more for SQ...for faster response..."
that is what you said, and it's not accurate, is it? 94

"you must know a lot about systems..." Yea I do, have been installing car audio for about 35 years, You where still pissing a shitting in your diapers, [maybe even just your daddies wet dream] when I was converting home and PA amps for car use.

"what kind of box and how i should wire it to the sub..." HINT, you do not wire the box to the sub.

"really..i just got it...and i dont know, what to do with it.... Really, and a post or so ago you knew everything, and they say drugs rot your mind and all along it's just being a smart *** that does it, who knew. 94

I started looking at the w6v2 first, but then I heard great things about the IDMAX series.

my subs in a ported box are just as punchy as they were sealed, if not punchier. sealed boxes have better low frequency extension than ported boxes, ported boxes have better low frequency extension for a certain response curve.

you can use any subs for daily...

it depends on the system/box(tuning)/power..
