Default subwoofer enclosure help

just a quick question. i drive a del sol and i want to shorten the height of the box so:

if i subtract '1'inch off of height, does this mean i must add '1'inch to the width or '1' inch to depth. thanks

Technically speaking, yes you will have to increase other dimensions accordingly..however I'll be honest with you, and tell you that you're probably not going to notice any difference in the sound between the box that's 1" taller and the one with 1" cut off. If it's a sealed box, just stuff it with dacron polyfill and be done with it. You're probably going to cause more problems than anything by modifying the other dimensions. This information applies primarily to a sealed type enclosure, because if it happens to be ported, the volume change will raise the tuning frequency of the box, possibly to a point where it's undesirable.

And yes, you can get MDF at most building supply stores HomeDepot will sell 1/2 sheets and make 2 or 3 cuts for free
So deLsoL7 ..... it makes no diff. how you get the volume, just that you get it, the way I do it, I look at the fixed measurement first, and that is normaly how wide can it be "W" and as your hight is limited next would be "H" so WxH = sq in, divide that into the gross volume and you will get "D" depth, don''t forget use inside measurements, also you need to take into account the depth of the speaker, [so it will fit into box] a 3" deep box just ain't going to make it with a 4" deep speaker so do this, your hight is fixed "H" and your depth is fixed at no less then 4" and you have an angle on the box, 4" on the and 6" on the bottom 4+6= 10 divide by 2 = 5" "D" so HxD divided into gross volume will give you width "W". easy as cake 94

Do you plan on making the box yourself? I hope you have a table sawbecause you will want to make the cleanest cuts of wood.
