Default Sub problems

My friend helped me install some subs and an amp on my 5th gen accord. They work, like you can see both the subs working, but they aren't hitting. Like they aren't hitting hard. The things is tho, I know they can hit louder because at times they do. Like i'm driving on the road and all of a sudden they would start hitting hard for some reason, and then stop hitting like that after a while. It sounds good when it's doing that but horrible when it's not. It's NOT the music cuz well, after a while i would know if it just hits at some point of some songs. Everything was brand new when I installed it, so assuming the amp and subs are mechanically ok, what could be going wrong? If it's a loose wire or something shouldn't one or both of the subs not vibrate or work at all? thanx

What kind of subs an amp? it could be a lot of things,I would start at the back and work forward, if you have access to another sub in a box, try pluging it in to your amp and see what happens, if not pull your sub/subs out of the box and check it/them and the wiring in the box, are they soldered? if all ok, move to sub amp, check all the connections, are they soldered? how about the ground for the amp, were did you ground it? if thats all good, check the RCAs at the amp and at the HU for poor connections.

hope this helps. 94

Yeap, that's what I thought when he explained the problem. It could be a RCA cable problem. Check both channels independently to see if there's a intermitent bad contact in the RCA's. If a cable is internally broken it could create this kind of malfunction of adding and substracting signal to the amp hence feeling that the subs hit hard one time and then not. The solution is, try a new set of RCA cables.

I hope it helps,

Eric
