Which sub combination?
I have a 1000 watt kenwood mono amp(kac-8101d). I would like to know your opinions on if i should get 2x 10" kicker L5s, 2x 12" Kicker L5s or 1x 15" Kicker L5. The price of the subs does not matter so go mainly of which you think would hit the hardest. Oh yeah, i have a 2000 civic coupe.
persionaly i would go with the 2, 12's because a single 15 is kinda slopy in my experiances i would go with the 12's i had a audio bahn 15 and i was not that inpressed.

Check out these http://edesignaudio.com/category.php?type=subs. This little known company has kick *** subs. I've owned several in the past, and they are less expensive than the name brands you are used to. Many people use these subs in competition & do very well. As far as which would it "hit the hardest", do you mean which would be the loudest? If so, I would go with 2 12's. These have more cone surface area then 1 15, and due to to sound waves produced by larger subs they sound better further away then they do in the car. Now if your talking about accuracy, and that "hit you in your chest" feeling. I would go with either 2 8's or 10's. They are easier for the amp to control, and give you that good punch inside the car. This is my opinion, of course, so do what you like. Let us know how it ends up.

Actually, ive had the same experience. 15s that ive heard sounded hella muddy when trying to play something like Slayer. Didnt sound good at all.

and i've heard 15" and 18" drivers that were tight as hell and had better response than smaller driver. just because you've listened to a shitty setup, you shouldnt make generalizations about sizes.

also it depends on what kinda subs where talking about, well all know that some some sound better and some are worse but its really based on what kinda subs and amp and head unit and what kinda music your playing counts on everything...

while its true that there are definately a bunch of factors that affect the SQ of the sub, generally speaking the larger drivers can play at the same volume as a smaller one with more clarity because the larger driver will have less excursion while still having the same output.
