Stereo Help: Alpine Components
Looks like I'll be ordering two 12" Alpine Type-R subs very soon. Would it be better to get the 2, or 4-ohm subs? Etronics has both for the same price ($109.99 each).
I'm just worried about subs, and an amp(s) right now. Smaller speakers are for later. Now, which would be the best amp for what I'm going to buy? I'm looking to stay with Alpine because it's one of the best brands out there, and I've heard a lot of good things about them. I just don't want to be spending $500+ on an amp(s) alone.
Any help you guys could provide would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

well the ohm load of the subs you buy is completely dependant on the amp that you plan to buy. You said you want to stick with Alpine so i would recommend the MRD-M500. That does 500 watts @ 2ohms so if you Did go with this amp, you would need to get 2 12" Type-Rs with dual 2 ohm configuration. Then you would wire each sub in series, then the pair in parallel which would yield a final load of 2 ohms. You would therefore get 250 watts per Type-R.
good luck
good luck
if I were you, wait a few more weeks for the MRD501. You can get it at http://www.hookedontronics.com very inexpensively, it will put out more power (only slightly) than the 500 and features a better output section. Personally, i would stay away from alpine speakers. Alpine makes quite good electronics, but are lacking in transducer tech, ie if you bump as hard as that amp will bump, you'll thrash those alpine surrounds quickly. my two cents is JBL, specifically GTi series, or Infinity Perfects (Al cone, not maggy). Harman Industries products have VERY good QC for the most part and I'd be happy to send you cheap links. No, I'm not following you around, I just saw that you made this post.

Heh.
Thanks for the advice. I'm just going with Alpine for my two subs, and amp. Heard a lot of good things about the Type R subs (best bang for the buck). Looking to back it up with something from Pioneer, or Infinity in the future.
