Default Starter Kill Relay Problems...I need help

Okay, so I was just trying to install my starter kill relay and from my understanding is that you cut the starter wire (black/white wire, right?) and you're left with two sides: Key side and the Starter side.
I'm supposed to connect the red wire (from relay) to the key side and the red/white (N.O. - from relay) to the Starter side, right?
Cause that's what I did and when I tried starting my car, it wouldn't start.
So what is it that could be wrong? Could something be wrong with the relay?

on your relay,

for a normally closed SK

30 and 87a are you starter wires it doesnt matter which is which, at rest they touch- and the car starts, when active its open and the start signal is inturrupted.

85 and 86 are your triggers, ie (-) while armed and IGN from your alarm.

Alright, so I've at least got the right wires then, right?
You've given me a pretty good explaination on normally closed, but I'm trying to make it work on normally open. Does it even make a difference on how it should be installed?

ooh, better yet, how do I know my relay's functioning properly?
I really need help on this cause I can't start my car.

What is the red wire connected to on the relay, hopefully 30? Where is your switch that you will use to energize the relay connected to?

The switch should be connected to 85 or 86. The alternate side of the switch, 85 or 86, needs to be grounded. The switch should have positive current which will allow the n/o pole to operate when the switch is in the on position.

Oh, sorry, I forgot to specify......this isn't a switch, it's a starter kill relay that runs from the alarm system that I've got. Yeah, the red wire is 30.
This is a bit of a newbie question, but what can I use to check if there's current running through the relay?
85 and 86 are connected (although not sure if done properly or not), 85 is from the alarm brain and 86 is connected/spliced into my ignition switch wire (blue/white)

The reason why I think the source of the problem is in the relay is because when I connected 87 and 30, it wouldn't start with the alarm disarmed. Needing my car to work the next morning, I took the starter wire (black/white) that I cut and twist-capped them together.

You need a dmm to check for current. Does your alarm put out positive when disarmed? If that is the case, connect it to 85 or 86 and ground the other side(85/86). Then the alarm will close the relay allowing you to start your car. Use a dmm to check the voltage on the wire when the alarm is disarmed before you try anything. You don't want to fry your alarm.

I'm not sure if it puts out positive or not, in fact, to tell you the truth, I don't know jack all when comes to electrical stuff.........I'm actually amazed at the fact that I even installed my own alarm....and works, haha. Only thing I haven't installed is the relay......which is why I'm asking for help (thanks btw)

anyways, you pointed out that 85/86 should be grounded and it's possibly what the problem is. See, there are actually two blue/white wires, one is abbreviated ST and the other is GND and I spliced it into ST...which might be the problem.
What do you think?

Current has to flow across 85 and 86. One side has to be grounded, and the other needs positive input. When current flows it closes the n/o connection and allows you to start.
