Icon2 Speakers

Im looking upgrade my sound. Mine is an ex stock speaker and head unit. I know the special edition speaker was an upgrade. Is it worth buying the special edition speaker and put in my ex or should I just go and buy all 4 aftermarket one? Is it a big difference in the special edition speaker?

I'm just looking a little bit louder. Nothing crazy like boom box etc. I'm just only looking upgrade the speaker only and keeping the head unit the way it is.

Thanks again.

trust me when people get in your car they don't care what your headunit looks like, they care how it sounds. And when i upgraded mine dang was it a huge difference.

That is true, some people don't care what the headunit look like but me personally I don't like aftermaket unit cause of the looks. I like my car to look stock even thou I only upgrading the speaker. Thanks for the input guys. I appreciate the response. I read some forums and people said it really no point of doing it. Best bet is just replacing the head unit. I just wish it can be a little bit louder that bout it really.

Just upgrading the speakers will make a noticeable difference in clarity. The stock speakers are junk.

Buy some coaxial speakers within your budget and install them. You can always upgrade the headunit later.

6.5" front and 6x9" rear for coupes.

6.5" front and rear for sedans.

Be forewarned, you may run into issues with the front windows not rolling down all the way due to mounting depth and magnet size. Make or buy spacers if this becomes a problem.

You might also run into issues with the spring for the trunk lid.

Thanks, I never knew 4 door rear speaker was 6.5 (thought it was 6.9 same as the coupe) any recommendation to pick? I rather buy some speaker that boot right up insteading doing some mod just like you said.

Thank you

for the price i'd say you can't beat alpine type S.

but that said i don't know your budget or what type of sound you want.

since your looking for a better sounding speaker and you don't plan on blasting them, pretty much any speaker will do. Definitely go coaxial and i think sony sells some xplodes within your price range.

if your up for it go through pick and pulls looking for speakers, i scored a really nice pair of alpines for free, not kidding the guy said go ahead and take them and they still play great today.

Never said they were good, they are just the cheapest ones you can find.

I'd rather take my chances tearing speakers out of junkyard cars then buy a set of xplodes

I am happy with the Polk DB series speakers in my car right now. They aren't amped yet just running off the headunit which is barely any wattage. They sound real clear though. Had the same speakers in my last 3 cars, I pulled the speakers every time I got rid of a car and put them in the next one lol.

Just throwing in aftermarket speakers is not going to help. It might sound better at low volume but what about when you turn it up? You need to match the speakers to the headunit rms output. And guess what. The factory headunit is 15 watts rms on a good day. So when you play at a good volume. The speakers volume will be lower and sound like crap when you turn it up to try to get some volume out of it.

Look into Infinity speakers, a set of REF6032CF for the front and rear or a set of REF6932CF for the rear if you have 6x9s, these are 2 ohm speakers and will work very well off a stock HU...

http://www.infinitysystems.com/car/p...=CA&Region=USA

A better bet, if you like your stock HU, is to get an amp, [with speaker level inputs] to drive the speakers and keep your stock HU.
Another route is to have an audio tech install a set of RCA pig tails on the stock HU so you can drive the amp off the HUs preamp stage, better SQ.

There are also a number of products on the market that allows you to keep the stock HU and add amp(s)...
