i'll install an amp pretty soon in my car. i'll be putting a 4 ch amp with a pair of polk audio 6x9(rear) and 6.5" components (fr). does it matter how thick the wires have to be? will i get better sound quality if i use a thick gauge wire?
16ga speaker wire should so the trick in 99% of the applications.
I know of some 'tweakers' who run 12ga from amp to passive network,
then 14-16ga to the speakers. Its all personal preference...you could reuse
the oem wiring and it should work well.

haha. prob does last longer than cars. how thick are the oem wires?

for general purpose.. 16 gauge wiring is more than enough. once you start flowing ALOT of current then you would want to upgrade you wiring. but more or less, you will not be able to tell the difference in sound between a 16 gauge wire and a 14 gauge wire.
i run 14 guage in my car, it was pretty easy and i got it for a good price
good luck
