Default Speaker installation disaster..

Well, serves me right for trying to do something to my car by myself..

Basically, I got a really good deal on two Jensen XS625 speakers, so I figured why not, and decided I could put them in myself. I followed all the directions. Here is exactly what I did:

1. Unhooked negative battery terminal
2. Removed speakers
3. Spliced wire
4. Installed new speakers
5. Reconnected battery

So, I go to turn the car on, and glance at my stock am/fm cassette player. It reads "c0de" . I also noticed that I was idling at 1300 rpm.. not sure if that is related however.

Basically, I need to know how to get this beast back to working. What did I do wrong? Please help!

By the way I have a 1995 Civic EX coupe.

TIA!

You didn't do anything wrong yet. It is a stock security feature. Whenever power is disconnected from the radio you have to enter a code to make it operational again. This code should be included with your Owners manual stuff (it should be on a credit card sized piece of paper). If you can't find it then call up a dealer and tell them your serial #, and they should give it to you.

I bought the car used and it didnt come with any owners manual stuff. I'll call a dealer, thanks.. do they want the VIN number? What do you mean by serial number?

You'll have to remove the cd player. The serial # for the radio is located on the top of it. Remove your lower console (with the ashtray, and storage pocket), by takin out the 4 screws. 2 on the sides and 2 right under the radio. After that, remove the 1 8mm bolt that holds the radio in, and slide it out. It's a piece of cake, but some of the metal bracing in there is sharp. Shouldn't take more that 20-30 minutes. Good luck.

Edit: This should be covered at InstallDR.com

On that car it should be on the inside of the trunk lid.

Could you be more detailed? I'm really interested in not paying the dealership to do this for me.. where under the trunk lid is it?

I've never heard of it being under the trunk lid. That would be stupid, and you shouldn't have to pay anything.

Awesome, I took apart my dash and got the code, it was faded on an 8 year old car so I had to guess the last number 6 times Thanks for the help.
