Skip is right. A lot of aftermarket speakers utilize bigger magnets requiring more depth for mounting. I installed Infinity Kappas in my 95 Integra and ended up having to cut the speaker basket on the front doors. Even if you do that, you have to make sure that your window doesn't hit it when you roll it down.

ive been installing about 12 years, and most of the hondas ive done require cutting out the rear section of the factory speaker cups for the magnet to stick through. In alot of cases 6.5s are oversized and require a whole new mounting bracket for the door. this mounting bracket is incluced with alpine type s components now and will probably come with type r as well. but if you remove you factory cup, then take the new alpine bracket(it comes with two types, the thicker one is used in honda, the other is meant for dodge, chrysler, jeep, plymouth.)and remove the square snap in tabs off the back so it will sit flush against the sheet matal around your speaker hole. line it up with the speaker whole and put screws in the three screw holes. now put in your alpines and enjoy, might as well throw in some dynamat extreme while your in there. hope this helps.
