Default six 6x9's?

(hatchback swift)i need some mids to keep up with my 12's in the trunk
i was thinking of making a wooden hatch cover and fitting six 6x9's in it for mids

id run a clean, low power amp to them, and id fade them out properly

what do you think?
it beats fitting kicks in the front!

maybe id try 4, should i build a box and tilt them forward on top of the hatch?

btw no separate tweeters would be near them, they would be 3 way and they would be most of my mids, apart from 2 5.25's in the dash...

Adding six more 6x9's would be six speakers too many IMO. More power to the 5.25's should be able to keep up with the 12's.

no man, not the two 12's i have now, you cant hear any mids when the bass hits, would 6 or maybe 8 inch be better?
maybe 4 8's in the cover, or 5 6's?

lol

8" somewhere up front. In the doors possibly, with the 5 1/4's and tweets in kicks.

he has 2 boxes on the hatch with 2 eights and tewwts in the box facing forward, but i wanted to be original...

If you were in LA I would let you her my 5.25's. With proper power they are loud enough to cause permanent hearing loss. How much more do you want?

I agree, 5.25's are a great size for fitting and for sound. Mine are running around 160RMS into each and can easily keep up with my 12.

ok, ok, but WHAT kind of 5.25?
i was feeding my kenwood '130 watt' 5.25 50 watts rms and it blew!!!
so im always afraid to put power on mids, i just run them on the radio itself

so i figure since i cant afford good mids that can take power i might as well add as much as i can and feed them low power(?)

please don't give up on me

Mine are Audiophile but I'm not sure if they still make them, they're rated at 75W RMS

One good pair with a decent amount of power and you'll be set.
I tried 2 pairs of 5.25's in the front and made some custom speaker pods with each speaker running 160RMS but it sounded ***** so I went back to 1 pair.

one pair of 6x9's or 6 1/2's or 5/4's in the back is plenty...you want more mids and treble coming from the front then the back. You don't even need an amp to run them, just run them off of your head unit. As far as beating kicks in the front...not true. The kick's will provide near perfect staging/imaging and you wouldn't even have to waste money for speakers in the back. I had one pair of 5 1/4" eclipse components in kick panels in my '66 Nova...no rear speakers, and they felt louder (to my ears, not db's) than my two Infinity Perfect 12's powered by my Phoenix Gold M100 amp that blew my rear window loose (put a 1 1/2" gap on the top of my rear window).

What was your highpass crossover setting? Cross them at 80 or above and you will be fine with lots of power. 50 watts at 30hz will probably kill alot of mids. Also, if your mids are crying, then something is wrong. Listen to them and you will not destroy them.
