I'm looking to get a new CD player with CD-R and CD-RW support to replace with my current one. I have a budget of about 250, around there. Anyone have experience and can refer to a "good" one?

Kenwood MP919 is around that price. Depending on what kind of deals you get. It scrolls faster than most of its competition, sounds great.
Kenwood should (if they have not already) release the new models anytime now so you may want to wait (if they have not already) til they come out. You can get a great deal on last year's model if the new ones just came out.

The Alpine 9813 is about $300.00 a little more than your budget. But it's worth every bit of that. You may also be able to find an Alpine 9811
http://www.hookedontronics.com/show_...s.jsp?cid=2838 here's a link to that at $268 it's not in stock though. These are definitely worth every penny though. The 9811 dosen't have as strong of an amp built in but it's ok if you're using an external amp. Or you can always add an amp later.

i second this. bought one last fall, and i absolutely LOVE it. i've had a mp3 cd in the aiwa mp3 player, and it had those little chirps all over the place. kenwood sounds, on the exact same cd, like a regular pressed audio cd. it's absolutely wonderful.
and if you know anyone who works at a best buy you can pick it up at a really nice discount.

Alpine...never had any issues with any Alpine. Clarion on the other hand has been a nightmare
I second the panasonic. They sound very clear. My other choice would be a eclipse.

Alpine does a good job of playing MP3s. If you want one that plays WMAs, too, look into Pioneer. The Pioneer is a little slower than the Alpine, but they make quality units IMO.

Alpines scroll SLOWWWW compared to Kenwood imo.
Pioneer DEH-P7400MP....it is the best cd/mp3 player out there for 230 bucks....look on eBay

The new Alpines play WMA files as well. The cd player itself in the Alpine is excellent. I have scratched cds that skip in every other player except the Alpine 9813 I have. I'm talking Sony, Nakamichi, Kenwood all skip.Alpine does a good job of playing MP3s. If you want one that plays WMAs, too, look into Pioneer. I have a JVC one, i'm not sure of the number, but it plays MP3, and was well under $200. It serves my purposes just fine (read: I'm cheap and too broke to buy anything better) . It came with some neat goodies, like a remote and a headphone jack-type input on the front (you can plug in a walkman, MD player, whatever)
I also own the Kenwood 919, it is bad ***. The EQ lets you choose what type of speakers you have, and lets you adjust everything. It works better than most EQs, I get compliments on it all the time too.
