Default RCA, power wire?

i heard about the noise interference with the RCA and power wire coming to close to one another...but how close can they be? if i want i may be able to run it behind the driver foot well to the trunk...and the RCA is just coming directly under the center console....so probably around 12 inches away from one another...only point that it get close is wen the power wire runs behind the deck area to the firewall? has anyone seen a problem with this/>

I try to keep them apart. In my crx, I ran the rca's and new speaker wires down the center of the car. They are under the console all the way back to the amps Mounted in the storage tray. This was easy at the time because I was installing new carpet as well( already stripped most of the interior ).

My power wires come in on the passenger side, and run under the edge of the carpet and or door sill all the way back.

I did all this to avoid noise. If you are only going to run a subwoofer amp, you may get away with running the wiring together. I have seen this done, but try to avoid it when doing an install myself.

If it's a subwoofer it doesn't matter. Just make sure your grounds are good. If you're powering mid range speakers, it should be 18 inches away from the power wire. If you have any doubt, first mock up the layout on top of your interior and see if you get noise.

Try laying them together. More then likely you wont get any noise. Just dont create any loops near the Power wire. And make sure you have solid grounds.

If you get whinning I would search for a ground loop.

ok i had a spare sub and amp from a friend to make sure that my wiring is all good...i connected AMP, sub and nothing. the amp turns on..because once the deck turns on..the amp is on. so there is power, ground, remote should be good. only thing left is speaker wire to sub, and the RCA cables...

i connected the RCA cables to the cables in the back of the alpine deck that says subw...thats correct?

i'm just not sure how to adjust the subwoofer level on the deck itself. I have the Alpine CDA 7892 and i lost the manual. but i know alpine usually push the volume button and it goes to a subwoofer level and nothng...anyone can help please

press and hold the F button until you get to another screen. you have to turn the subwoofer control on first. my cda-9807 is the same way. i think you use the <-- and --> track buttons to switch through the screens, and the fm/am/band button to change settings. although i might have that backwards, lol. good luck let me know if you need help. and btw, i think you can find the manuals in pdf on alpine's site. http://www.alpine1.com

welcome. glad everything worked out. i used to live in walnut creek, if i still lived up there i'd offer to bring over a sub/amp so we could test your system. by the way, when nothing is hooked up, MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT THE POWER CABLE FROM THE BATTERY!!! you don't want a live wire chilling in the back of your car, that's kinda dangerous...

Your entire car is a ground.

Remote wire "should be" good?! Should be doesn't cut it. I've had brand new stereos that should be good turn out not to be. Tonight I had a switch on an fm modulator that should have been good. Wasn't.

How do you test for ground loops?

with that power wire still connected to the battery, it can spark off just about anything metal it touches. NOT GOOD.

another question ...what gauge should the power and ground wire be? 10 gauge? 8 gauge?

speaker wires as well? let me know thanks

i heard that speaker wires play a lot in giving good sound so yea...but smoe of my other friend say power wire should be smaller gauge too but not sure?

power wire should probably be 8 gauge. anything bigger (smaller number) than that is probably overkill. for speaker wire for the sub, it's usually a short enough distance that regular wire should be fine, i think anything bigger than 12 gauge won't make a difference.

ok my co-worker gave me two sections of speaker wires...10 gauge...there were connected using butt connectors because both of the wires were about 2 feet long only and i needed abot 4 feet. so i ran it from the driver seat all the way to the trunk which is a short distance...4 ft and the wire made it. is there a downside in using 10 gauge speaker wire? besides installng since i already did it and was easy. and is the butt connectors ok for speaker wires or should i just run one continuous wire? the connection is solid so yea...just wanted to make sure. also is power wire ok to use as speaker wire? since i have tons of extra power wire i was thinking of running the wires inside the sub box which u can't see with the power wire since its 10 guage and it'll be the same gauge as wire running to the amp.

the reason i'm asking is i got all these wires from a co-worker so i didn't have to buy any...lol but if i wanted to run some new speaker wires and everything i'll have to go buy which i would but i wanted to see if it was ok to run with these wires.

10 gauge power wire for speaker wire should probably be fine. i'd say you'd be better off without the butt connectors but if you can't hear a difference in sound quality then don't worry about it. how does your sub sound?

phateless has it almost right, its press and hold setup button for at least 3 sec. press >> or << to select SUB.W then press band button to turn sub on and off, press setup button after turning SUB.W on the it will come on when you press mode button, [volume - SUB.W - balance - fader - defeat -] once SUB.W is onscreen you can use the << >> the change the subs phase, and the "Rotary encoder" to adjust gain.
go here and down load the owners manual... http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/support/ click on owners manuals, then on continue without login then type in CDA-7892 in quick search box. 94

FCM- i got it working already...THANKS for the help

yea i was thinking about the same with the butt connectors. but i haven't connecteedd t he sub yet...still waiting for my own amp. i used my friends sub and amp to test it only. i'll see when it comes..if it does i'll go buy some speaker wire. i can get a hold of some 12 gauge speaker wire i think.

I agree.

The car chassis is the biggest conductor in the car. Essentially, it's basically your biggest power wire, speaking in terms of electronics and physics. This means it's also the largest source for noise. Splitting the power and signal cable 5ft apart wouldn't help since the conduction is that strong. When you turn off your car, the battery's negative post will become your negative supply. When you turn on your car, the alternator's casing becomes your negative supply.

A stronger residual ripple and spike from the alternator would induce more noise into the car's chassis, but this also means your alternator is healthier. A weak alternator would supply a low ripple, so it's quieter. It comes down to whether the signal cable is a good cable or not. A crappy one will conduct noise, obviously.

Likewise, many amps have their RCA jack on the same side as the power and ground wire, sometimes only being separated by 3 inches or so.

I have my 1/0 gauge power wire running right next to the signal cable. No noise for me.

If there is noise, then it's a good possibility that it's your ground. There are many ways of testing.

a lot of lower end decks are notorious for that. It happens in many alpine decks, unless you go for the higher end.

Some pioneer decks do that also.
