Default Radio light problem

Hi, I'm new here, but not new to Hondas & racing. I have a 2003 EX-V6 without the navigation system. The radio's display went dark, but it played fine. I pulled the radio fuse and inspected it. I don't have any mini fuses so I put the same fuse back in the fuse panel. I heard a motor like noise and now the radio won't come on. I had the ignition off both times while R&Ring the fuse. This is the stock EX 6 disc changer unit. Can someone help me out on what's going on? I would appreciate any info. I also need to know what lights up that whole section. I'm not familier with this type of unit. Thanks guys.

Look in your glove box for a 5 digit code. You need to enter that into the radio for it to work again. It's probably trying to tell you that, but since you can't see the display, you don't see the message.

OK< I put the code in and the radio is fine. Now, can you tell me or direct me to info on what kind of bulb? or other type of light will light up the face area in the radio that is dark. Thanks.

I did some research and it was determined that the display is lit up by a part Honda calls a tuner assembly. It's in the rear of the front piece. It's expensive- $608.00 for the part + 1 hr. labor @ $85.00.

The shop service mgr. told me to make an appt. as he needs the S/N off the assembly. It seems there are about 50 of them. I won't have to pay for that visit and they will take off at least 50% of the total bill. He said I would know exactly what Honda will do after they see the car & unit.

The good thing about this is the milege is under 36,000. The bad thing is the car went out of bumper to bumper on July 1st of this year. Wish me luck. I'm not rollling in money or even close at this time.

Hi, I wanted to let you know, that I spoke with the assistant service manager at the Honda dealer, who referred me to a specific service advisor. I called this morning to make an appointment to have the tuner assembly unit pulled an ID'ed. When I talked to the advisor and gave him my name he had my file pulled up already and knew I was from prior visits. He informed me that there would be no charge for parts or labor, and this was being done as a goodwill gesture.

It's good to know that in this day and age there are some good people and companies to deal with when you're in a gray situation like this one. Thanks for your comments guys. Walker1

It all boils down to how you treat people in customer service positions... I'm sure you would have a lighter wallet if you had been a dick to them about the situation....

I'm assuming that you were civil about it, and they reciprocated your being nice...

Glad to hear it worked out for you...

Hi, Today I brought the Accord to the dlr. I was told the lighting problem is only common to Hondas that have the same stereo. It seems that the rear piece- (Tuner assembly) has 5 circuit boards in it and there is no way to vent out the heat. So, over time some fail. I also asked the advisor if the manufactuer of that board had rectified the problem and he said no. Well, at least this time it didn't cost me! I was thinking about the xtended war., but Hondas are so reliable I didn't take the warranty.

Anyway, I thought everyone who has this unit would like to know just what it was and what happened. They called it a goodwill gesture. Indeed it is. When it's time to buy a new Honda that dlr. is #1 with me. Walker1
