Default Questions about setups

I have a couple of questions about a setup I want to get in my car. Would you guys recommend, one 12-inch JL w3 or two 10-inch w3s? What kind of amp would you recommend? I just got a quote on a system today. It was for a JL 250.1 amp, one 12-inch JL w3, a Pioneer Premier head unit (I don't remember which one), and a box all installed for $900. This seemed a little pricey to me, what do you guys think? Thanks in advance.

I'll take this on. Not to say i am an expert or anything but i know enough to not point you in the wrong direction.
First find out exactly what head unit he is going to get you. It could be anywhere between this:
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pi...,21405,00.html OR this http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pi...,21409,00.html and there is a huge difference between the 2 of them! Night and day in terms of quality. I dont think he would sell you anything better than the DEH-P740MP. JL Audio 12W3 is an awesome subwoofer. It has 250wRMS and has DVC, so you can give it atleast 300wRMS no prob and it will reproduce bass amazingly. The JL Audio 250.1 is the perfect amp for that sub because it is a perfect match. Now, this is what i want to ask... 1) do you already have aftermarket interior speakers? or are they still stock? 2) When do you plan on getting them? 3) are you content with the sound your stock speakers produce?
If you think that a sub with your stock speaks will sound good, than i say go for it. I mean you will get better sound with the better headunit from your stock speakers anyway. If you do not think they will sound good with the sub, than, buy the sub, amp, headunit, and save up some more money so you can buy yourself good interior speakers. I suggest JL Audio, Boston Acoustics, MB QUart, Infinity. I like the way those speakers sound. I have a full JL setup and i think it sound great. Now the price you said you would get the amp, sub, headunit for is a great price, depending on the headunit he gets you. Find out first, i than suggest going to these sites:
http://www.thezeb.com/
http://www.woofersetc.com/woofersetc/
They have great prices, and i have not heard a complaint about them yet. Add up how much it would cost you for the same products at these websites and see which is the better deal. Do not forget to also calculate in cost of shipping, and labor. Well, i hope i helped you out a little. Take care. Let us know what you end up doing!!! Good Luck!!!

Thanks a lot for all the information. It really did help. The price of the head unit was $220 so I am assuming it was probably the 240F. I also asked him how much labor would be if I bought the stuff somewhere else and brought it there to be installed. He said the head unit would cost $65 to install and the subs and amp would be cheaper. I still have factory speakers in my car, and I am happy with them. You never know though, if I going to spend all this money, whats a couple more bucks for better speakers . Thanks a lot for all of the info, you helped me out tons. There are so many subs and amps out there, the combonations are endless, especially for someone who is clueless about audio. I am just going to keep looking and researching. Thanks again.
