Default question about ports?

does anybody know of any way to seal off a port. i got a ported box for free. i don't know the actual demensions of it but the front is slanted and the hole is on the left side for the sub and a space right next to it for an amp. on the left side of the box is a 3 inch port and i was wondering if there was a way to seal it off because a couple of my friends have the alpine type e's and the make a lot of port noise. i have 1 12 inch type r. and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

check the specs on the sub before you go modifying the box. Ported boxes are usually larger than sealed boxes. if you want it to look good cut a circle about 3/4 of an inch bigger and then cut another on the same size as to port hole and glue and screw them both together. make sure you use silicone to seal the piece you are putting in so the box will be sealed. you will want to recarpet the box after you get it in place and screwed in( just us some 1 5/8 grabber screws to do it). if the box is too big for the specs of the sub you can make filler boxes to put in it. sounds like a lot of effort, you might just want to build a new box. good luck

Those cheasy plastic ports are notorious for port noise, that's why I make mine out of mdf and bullnose the inside edges of the port.
