Question about an alarm without a remote.........
I bought my Prelude used from a guy and it has a Alpine alarm on it(at least the siren under the hood is Alpine so I am assuming the whole alarm is). Anyways, he didn't give a remote, but I think the alarm still works because the red LED light on the center console flashes every time a door is opened or I hit the steering wheel when the car is off. My question is, how would I go about getting a remote for the alarm?

Nothing was thought of being wrong because they (security) assumed the sleeze was the owner.
just a little advice
I'd say just get another alarm. I personally really like cliffords, and the chuck dood is right, you don't know if the previous owner still has the remote, etc. If you only want keyless entry, that's cheap, but if you want a pretty good clifford with shock sensor, and engine kill etc, it'll be around 250.00. best of luck.
remotes will cost an average of $35-40 each plus labor to program them, so you could be easily spending $100 just to get new remotes.
...easily spending $100 just to get new remotes.
can't you just go to an authorized Alpine alarm dealer and buy a new remote for around $35-65 depending on make/model and then erase all the codes/clear all the remotes out of the brain and then program your newly bought remote into the brain? that way it would respond (arm/disarm) to your new remote.. but all the previous remote/codes have been erased and won't work to arm/disarm (lock/unlock and turn alarm on/off) your car...
I'm not sure about Alpine.. but every Clifford alarm I have owned has had the ability to erase all remotes/reset.... I could have sworn my Viper could do that too... some require programming new remotes over and over to "push" out the older remote codes.. but those were pretty old school/back in the day.. I'll ask my friend who has an Alpine 8063 (I think thats the model number) about erasing and such...
maybe you can find the manual online somewhere to delete all the codes.. and find out how to program it when you get a new remote... my other friend had an 8027A (i THINK that was the model #) and you had to find the brain and press a button in a sequence along w/ pressing the remote and stuff to program...
I guess if you have the money.. you can also follow the other advice and get a totally new alarm installed....

I am on a tight budget, so getting a new alarm is out of the question. Plus, I'm more interested in getting the remote simply for the keyless entry more than anything. I'm not worried about the previous owner jacking me because a)I bought the car 1.5 hours away from where I live b)I bought it in Sep 01, so he would done something by now, and c) he moved back to Canada. Thanks for the replies, but I think I will just try to find out what model it is and order a remote and reset the codes.

depending on what type of system it is you can reset the codes....it just a think that i tell all of my customers....I personally came across a former car I owned and just for **** and giggles armed and disarmed the car ( now this was 2 years after I traded it in...over 100 miles from home) with an old transmitter that my wife had in her purse. I know that you are on a budget...lets do some hard math...your transmitter will cost anywhere from $50-150 bucks ( these are based on Alpines prices..since this is that type of product) now add labor (1 hr min billing) of about 40-55 bucks. You have have spent $100-205 for JUST the transmitter...even though the alarm has a "lifetime warranty" on labor..by you not being the original owner your kinda SOL. So if anything craps out..(its and old alarm..things happen) and they decide to take care of you..you are still gonna pay for a 1 hr min billing fee....which places you in the area of a new system anyway.
I'm very well aware that you just got the car and money is tight...but to skrimp out now is a bad call....I would suggest shopping around in your area for "house brands" or even stopping by a Best Buy,Circuit City,Good Guys or even an alarm shop and see what the have to offer you. You may be pleasantly surprised.
Good luck
