Python Alarms
Does anyone have experience with the Python 990 2-Way Security System/Remote Start alarm? I'm thinking about getting it for my car because I can get a good discount on it, but the only thing is I cant use the remote start because my car is manual.
heres a link to the alarm page

Yea i mostly want it because of the keypad and 2 way. Do you know any other good alarms that have a keypad that shows you whats happening to your car on the screen? Like if someone hits your car it will show you on the keypad where they hit it at.
The keypad consists of the buttons you press. The Display, however, does indeed show you the status of the system.
Compustar alarms/starters have a status display (and keypads, too
).

the python 990 is amazing. One-mile Range, two way/ lcd status... WHat more could you want?
GO with it and never look back!
oh and its just like the 5900 not 791x (sst is in 5900 791 doesnt have it)

^^^^ true. But its the same as the clifford 50.5x and the 20.5x. Mate it up with a back up battery, good install. Its a great alarm. also put the siren in the fender and your set. Now cc price on its is up there for it. I need to start price checking and matching lol.
python is very good stuff. i install it at work everyday. i've installed code and viper as well. viper and python is the same if ya didn't kno. and remote start is possible. i have the same alarm and i installed the remote start. but... it's extremely illegal. at least on a 5spd.

There are alarm/remote starts for cars with manual transmissions, Compustar is one of them.
There is also this... http://peripheralelectronics.c...earch= to make your Python, [or any remote start] work safely in your 5 speed.

It forces you to leave the engine running when you exit the car, that way if your car takes off w/out you in it, it's your fault for leaving it in gear. Instead of having the remote start cause your car to drive off, in which case, the installer and/or manufacturer could be sued.
I have two problems with this. The first is that I install Peripheral brand products at work, and more than half of the time they're defective right out of the box. The second is that it is stupid to park a manual transmission car in neutral. The e-brake just isn't reliable enough to depend on. Eventually, someone will park their car on a hill that doesn't have a shoulder, the e-brake is going to give out, and then the car is going to end up in someone's living room. It happened in my neighborhood when I was a kid.
I think if you want remote start badly enough, you'll drive an automatic. But that's just my opinion, and I don't expect anyone to agree with me.

yea i don't really care about the remote start. I just wanted to see if their were any alarms that had the display feature that didn't come with remote start.
even though it is the same thing as the viper 5900 and the clifford 50.5x, I'd go with the viper or the clifford because they come with a lifetime warranty. The python only comes with a one or two year warranty. i forgot which of the two it is. DEI has had problems with their 791xv and 3.5 matrix transmitters not responding to their brains, so I don't know if they fixed that problem on this newer generation. Regardless, its always nice to have that lifetime warranty on the brain.

I must agree some of the peripheral products are of low quality but ive only worked with ipod2car,aux-in adapters, and steering wheel controls i did not even know they made security products.
FCM have you used this nuetral bypass for remote start in a manual transmission? and what do you think about the quality, ease of use and installation? One last thing the "stop and go" option is that the turbo timer feature on dei alarms?

I have used the Peripheral NSS only a few times, and only to add to an existing, [installed] remote start, after customers had an OOPS.
There are enough remote starts brands for standard transmission cars out there that one in just about any price range can be found, because of that we will not install one for automatic transmissions only into a standard, under any circumstances.
Valet take over, [stop and go] and turbo timer are not the same, valet take over will keep motor running for programed remote start run time, turbo timer run time can be programed separately to 1, 3, 5, or 10 min, run time can be programed to 12, 24 or 60 min.
They are also "turned on" in different ways, for valet take over all you need to do is press * 2 times within 3 sec. then wait 5 sec. and turn off ign.
Turbo timer requires you to set the hand brake, take you foot off the brake, press and release the * and AUX buttons at the same time, then turn off the ign.
Although there may be differences in other DEI brands or models, the above is for the Viper 791VX, valet take over and turbo timer are diff. on all the DEIs I can think of.

Even if you could "make some kind of neutral safety switch" you would still have to put it into neutral.
There is no need to unplug the clutch interlock switch, and even if you did it is only a low current ground switch, [for starter relays coil] so no fuse is needed, but all you need to do is connect the remote starts status output,. [ground out when running] to the CISs output lead. so the remote start supplies the needed ground for the starter relay.
