Prelude Component install
I have a 92 prelude.. and id like to install my components + crossover myself.. how difficult is this? Do i need an amp to power them (i only have components in the front, if it makes a difference) ? Any other good input? i am sort of new to the DIY car audio..excepting my head unit that i installed..so help a newbie out! Also if you could point me to any good sites for this that would also be greatly appreciated..thanks.
If you can afford it, buy an amp for the crossovers. As far as installation, if it has a spot for the tweeter (i'm not familiar with Preludes) it shouldn't be too difficult if it's on the door, but the tweeter may take some creativity to install. The instructions with the components should cover a lot of everything else you'd need to know.
ok, i have a few questions for you, does your head unit have rca out puts? did you use a wiring harness when you did the head install? If you used a wireing harness then what you do is find what wires got to what speakers. I cant tell you the exact colors right this second. Then you run your rca lines to your amp(s) and then run your out puts from your amp(s) back up to the wires at the harness and splice away. On my 92 lude, i have a kenwood deck and which i fun the rca's back to a 6ch x-over then i run from that to a punchx2 200 for the subs and pucnx4 for the front and rear speakers. It was fairly strait forward. if you have specific ? i will see if i can help you out
If your running a decent set of components on a high powered amp 50+ Rms clean, you might consider making a wiring run stright to the speakers rather than to the back of the head unit. This way you will not be using any of the stock wiring as its really, really not the greatest but it definetly will do!
The install should'nt be too hard. Make sure however you properly protect your components from the elements that enter in those door panels. If your going to leave your crossovers in the door, consider baggies etc.
