Default Possible problem Subs/Amp

After I got home today I shut my car off and noticed a loud bump of bass and thought nothing of it. Later that night I went to get a movie and the same thing happened from my subs. What could be causing this? I unhooked my subs because I don't want to blow them because this is a loud *** thud, louder that when I blast the volume. PLEASE HELP

I'll check those on the head unit because it does it even when I have the subs off on the head unit.

depending on what brand of amp ur are running and if u have the gains maxed or close or using a rca adapter to get sound u could be experiencing a turn off thump also make sure your grounds are secure and under 3ft in total length

what kind of head unit are you running? it happened on my friends old alpine, and he got a new HU and it fixed it. it also happened on my old pioneer. it would thump when i turned it off or switched radio stations. i dont think its a big deal, but you might want to correct it. i bought a new HU, and it fixed it.

theres also an amp switch off thing made by stinger that you use to shut your amp off before you turn your car off to eliminate the sound.

I have an apline head-unit which is only a year old and the amp is a bazooka, which the levels are only turned up about half way.

if RCA cables are touching metal (the ends) you get the loud thump noise. Check both of those connections first.

Ok... I went and took out the back seats to check to see if the wire was pinched there, and I found nothing. So then I went and tore the dash apart and everything looked fine. Next I unhooked the remote wire to my amp and since it didn't turn on, I got no loud thud. Would the problem be with a bad remote wire, or do you think it would actually be the power wire to the amp.

I once got the same loud and low bump of bass from my sub. I installed my new PG sub amp in the car and the way I placed it made it hell for me to reach for the "tuning" controls on the amp. I had to use a small screwdriver...anyway, I couldn't see where exactly I'm poking into my screwdriver and it just happened to be that I inserted it right between the **** and the amp housing, right inside the amp. I don't know what I touched there, but it made a loud bump...and all of a sudden I thought I just killed it, but luckily it works perfect even to this day.

Just a thought, maybe something is going wrong inside your amp? Maybe it's going bad?

Update again. I just checked the remote wire and that was fine, I tryed another one to check. Then I pulled my rca's out and they are fine, but I still got the bump. I don't wanna get a new head unit like one of you said because I can't afford it. I didn't check my power wire yet, but I think that might be it, that is the next step once I find somewhere warm.

How would I go about putting a switch to shut off my amp before the car. Would I just have to get a heavy duty switch and place in line with the power wire?

yeah just get yourself a good toggle switch and install it between the power and amp. personally if I would think you should not have to do this. Take it back to the place that installed your system and have them look at it. Most places (if they are good) will charge you little to nothing to look at it and in most cases fix it for you for lil or nothing.

good luck
