Hello HT,

anyone know how to connect dual cone (DVC) 4 ohm sub to a 2ch amp. The sub has total of 4 connectors, 2 pos and 2 neg. I know that im supposed to connect them in series to get 8 ohm or parallel to get 2 ohm. I dont know which way will work best.
I have a 12 inch adudiobah dub200 and audiolightning 2ch amp.. Sub specs are DVC 4 ohm 800 watt max, 500 watt rms. The amp is 2 ch 900 watt max, 100w x2 @4ohm, 150w x2 @ 2 ohm, and 300w x1 @ 4 ohm. So which configuration i will be using? Since my DVC sub will produce either 2ohm in parallel or 8 ohm in series.

If you want 2ohm operation, then bridge the amp connection and wire it in parallel. To wire it in parallel, connect the wires to one voice coil then run another set of wires from that voice coil to the other. I have a DVC Kenwood and a small 300w JBL Mono block wired this way. It bumps as hard as my friends with 2 10s in a hatch.

2ohm stereo and/or 4ohm bridged (mono).

This will put his amp into protection mode, which is bad.


OP you should really just get a different amp. Your sub is rated for 400wrms so I would get atleast a 400wrms amp that can put it into 2ohms.
Even if you do wire it so that each vc is to one channel you are still underpowering it significantly.

 

I got this amp and sub from a friend and cant afford to get a new amp. I guess its better than nothin so underpowering it is fine as long as I dont blow it up or create a hazard. I thought that if the amp has 900w max and sub 800w max, it would be ok. So do i need to wire them that each voice coil is to one chanel? No bridging anything?

 

Let FCM chime in here. I'm not familiar with this amp. Some of them you can, some you shouldn't.
Max power doesn't mean anything. You never go by the max power ratings. Go by the RMS.

 

thanks for help. I searched around and read that underpowering is fine as long as you dont create clipping when you adjust the volume really high which destorts. That clipping affect can damage your subs. Also whenever you turn your volume down that is considered underpowering it. So underpowering is not an issue.
The last unsolved question is if i should connect the sub in parallel to make 2ohm or conncet the sub in series to make 8ohm? on the back of the amp is says Use with 2,4,or 8 ohm speakers.

Not if it doesn't say it can operate at 2ohms bridged.

I conneted the sub in series to make 8ohm total and used the bridged conncetion. It works but didnt test it throughoutly yet.

Good to know. I guess all the amps I've gotten before have been able to go to 2ohm bridged. Sorry for bad info.
