Default Pioneer 4800

I'm trying to hook up my Ipod through the stereo input. AUX1 is turned on... what happened when I hooked everything up was that I could barely hear any music when both the IPOD and head unit were turned all the way up? Any suggestions? Trying to save some bucks...

Would that be the Pioneer DEH-P4800MP?
If so, are you sure you are plugged into the AUX 1 port using a stereo mini jack or the AUX 2 using the IP-BUS-RCA adaptor? 94
