Oertheating Amp
I have an Audiobahn 1600 Watt Amp and two 12" Audiobahn Sub woofers. The amp is wired with 4gauge power (with a 60 amp fuse) and ground wire, wired through a capacitor. Now the problem with all this is that when i run it, which normally is about half power on the cd deck and 2/3-3/4 power on the amp itself, it will only work for about half an hour to 40 minutes and then cut out b/c it over heats. I've check all my connections and they're solid, no rusting or loose connections so I know thats not why it overheats. This is a picture of my setup at the moment

I was wondering if anybody can think of any reasons why it would over heat after such a short period of use, or even over heat at all. Thanks for your help!

Wow, that looks like total ***....
But anyways... You really need to determine how they're wired up... Without knowing the ohm load on the amp, we can't troubleshoot any further...

as in this. I also am quite positive the subs are 3.3 ohms each if that matters.

Did you also figured out that your subs are not a free air sub. Let alone that the front and the back of the speaker are not sealed from each other well. Which is causing cancellation and a lack of bass. And inturned your probably cranking the radio up to try to get some bass out of it and thats clipping the amp. Or the subs are going beyond there mechanical limilt and the voice coils are arcing, over heating the amp. Or you really got the load wrong. You know a 4 ohm speaker is not going to read a straight 4 ohm..... right.
Your doing more harm then good man. Your just going to damage you speakers. Don't get me wrong. A well designed free air can sound good. But you have to have the right equipment and the right install.

well actually no I didn't know most of that, and I still don't. What I did figure out is the wiring for them, but I'm definetly interested in learning more about what you posted in there. I wouldn't mind learning a bit from you if you don't mind teaching me lol

I don't mind teaching you as long as you just not going to make me type for my health. And not put it to use like a lot of noobs around here. They ask for advice then do 100% of the opposite. I not really good at typing anyways. If your local I can give you hands on instructions. If not the net will do well. Are you trying to work with the gear you have or are you trying to go free air?
