Default OEM deck compatibility

Can someone with actual experience answer the following question..........are all OEM Honda radio/cd/tape players compatiable? In other words, is it possible to plug and play a Civic radio in an Accord? An Accord radio in an Odyssey? Prelude radio in a Civic? Are all the plugs on the back the same? I am guessing that they are, but want some confirmation (want to put some kind of OEM cd player in an Odyssey but want to make sure it is just a plug and play).

Thanks.

Depends on the year. In 98, they changed the plug style on the head units. However, I have a '98 Civic with the old style harness... So, I would suggest that if you're buying a head unit from a '98, ask for pics of the plug first.

Thanks, I thought the plugs changed in 98ish.......So, if I want to put an OEM unit in a 99 Odessy, I should be good, as long as it comes from any honda that is 99+?

I understand that any deck can be made to work with some additional work/witing, but this isn't my van - I just want to help a buddy out and get on with my own projects. haha

Thanks for the reply.

Correct.

If for some reason you can't find a 99+ deck, you can use the older one pretty easily... You just need to get a reverse harness (71-1720 I believe) and a regular harness (70-1720 (both Metra Part #'s) and wire them together. That will allow you to use the older deck in a newer car and still be pretty much plug & play.

In case anyone cares,

I recently purchased an 03 Civic radio to put into a 99 Odyssey.....it "kinda" worked.

FYI - While an 03 Civic radio is compatible from a plug-and-play standpoint, it is not a standard Single DIN size and will not fit into a standard opening (the deck is slightly to wide and the right top does not make a 90 degree angle......it is more like a 75 degree angle).

So, I am not selling an 03 Civic radio (with code)...... and am looking to buy something else that is compatible, but will fit into a standard opening.
