Default New Head Unit Install - Help

I just installed a Kenwood KDC-MP245 head unit in my 1990 Honda Accord LX.
Everything appears to work fine except getting clear radio reception for any AM or FM station. I have checked that all antenna connections are indeed hooked up.

I am using the Kenwood HU harness and I purchased a harness for the Accord factory wiring. For this unit I have the P.Cont wire on the Kenwood harness hooked to the Power Antenna wire on the Accord harness. I originally had the Ant. Cont. wire from the Kenwood harness hooked to the Power Antenna wire form the Accord harness but then the power antenna wouldn't operate. I dont have the Mute or Ant. Cont. wires from the Kenwood harness hooked to anything currently. I'm not sure if this is an issue...but there were no unused additional wires form the Accord harness.

The weird thing is...initially when I test the unit prior to inserting it into the dash...the stations are static...but if i move it around or if I grab ahold of the antenna wire plugged into the back of the HU...the station clears up. As soon as I install it in the dash...it receives nothing...not even one station signal is strong enough to stop the auto seek on the tuner.

I am just looking for some advice or ideas to begin to troubleshoot this.
Thanks in advance for your patience with a "non-expert'...and your willingness to help.

Sounds like ant. is not grounded, you will need a multimeter set meter to continuity ground one probe to cars chassis and touch other probe to the bigger barrel of ant. plug, it is the ant. ground, if you have good continuity to ground, 000 or close, check the mast, move grounded probe to ant. mast and touch the other probe to the plugs inner/smaller pin, continuity should also be 000 or close, now test for short, one probe to outer/barrel of plug and the other probe to inner/pin of the plug, there should be no continuity at all. 94
