Going to only spend like 1500 on the system.
What would ya suggest? Like I said..something NICE and not drastic to where the bass is going to make you explode just about.
I listen to Tool, yadda yadda, so I dont need the whole rap bass making the screws on my car fall off.

Well, I have 2 10" jbl subs in my car, with a 300 amp powering it. It sounds good but doesnt blow you away. I have a jvc kameleon as my head unit. Paid aound 600 for the whole system.

1500, can build you a pretty good system.
What you have to determine is
1) What type of music do you listen to and what sounds best?
2) What type of car and how much space are you willing to sacrifice, and 2 door or 4 door?
3) What functions do you want it to have?
4) Are you going to do it yourself or hire someone?
5) Driving conditions? (windows up or down) (windows down doing 60, then you are going to need better speakers in the doors and such and also more power than the head unit to push them. Also remember that the signal power being pushed from the head unit is not going to be filtered as well than an amp. Head Unit pushes full range, amp can filter better for high or low or none.)
I myself am a pioneer person.
Everyday system
Head Unit
EQ
2 10" subs
2 component 5 1/4's for the front with 1" tweeter
2 3way 6 1/2's in the back
3 Two Channel Amps
Custom Box
= 1500
Also keep in mind if you plan on racing this stuff is extra weight, but atleast youll sound good going down the track.

get a nakamichi cd45z one of the clearest most lively sounding units (has a 20 bit da converter) a nice 4 channel amp w/ both high and low outputs, a set of front components, forget back ones they just ruin imaging( or just leave the stockers and run them off the HU) and a 10 inch alchemy. run the components off the first two channels and bridge the third and fourth for the sub. clean and simpl
My opinion is to get a 1 or 2 JL 10's in a sealed box
a small, maybe 300 watt, rockford amp
then get a high end deck, like a kenwood excelon
just something that will let you control the frequencies to the channels
then you want to set it so the high frequencies go to the regular speaker and lows go to the subs
make sure to get at least 6gauge wire for your amp

Some nice quality subs are:
IDQ's - Very good SQ, good SPL
Infinty Perfects - 50/50 SQ/SPL
I'd go with IDQ's. I would not get RF, Pioneer, JBL, or any other brand you can buy at Circuit City. Check out http://www.caraudioforum.com
