Default Need help on setup decisions!

hey guys, this is my first time visiting the audio/security section of this board. I'm extremely new to everything and i was just wondering if anyone here could recommend me a good set up for my audio for a good price. I'm not trying to go into show or to bump my car so loud that everyone can hear me. I just want something that sounds clear, clean, and bassy. I was considering getting a cheap aiwa deck or kenwood? I dunno whats good. Aiwas look really cool though. For the speakers i was thinking of taking a pair of 6 1/2" polk audio EX602a speakers and then finding another pair. For bass, i want just one sub because i do not want to weigh my car down...and then a cheapo amp. Is there anything wrong with this? or will it sound like crap? Also, would it be easy to install? I hate bringing my car into circuit city to have them work on my car. They charge so much.

Aiwas aren't too highly regarded in the car audio scene. I'd get the Kenwood.

A good setup will run you $1k. That's just replacing the stock speakers, head unit, and adding the amp and sub.

I suggest a cheap pair of components in the front, around $200. Then a cheap pair of mid woofers in back, around $100. A head unit that does the job can be found for $200. Then $200 each for the amp (4 x 50W) and sub (10 inch), and $100 for wiring.

The Integra is one of the easiest cars to do an install. I'll guide you step by step if necessary. You can install everything in a few hours if you're willing to spend the time and have proper tools. You may need to do some wood work though, depending on the front speakers.

yeah...aiwas are sorta new in the car audio scene aren't they? Well i couldn't help but stumble across an incredible deal at fry's electronics. they have the aiwa CDCX417 for $97 dollars. I don't know of any other stereo deck out there that can match the price of that...i'm not too sure of its quality however i read reader reviews from the circuit city page and it seems to be really good. What is a good pair of speakers for the rear?

A question on deck installation. Have any of you guys installed a new deck without getting a new install kit and just using the factory thing? I saw instructions at team-integra.com or something, just wanted to know if that actually works. My budget for audio equipment right now is around 300 dollars. I wanna get something that sounds better than stock (wtf was acura thinking of putting this crap sound system in this car anyways), then i want to upgrade with an amp and sub maybe for christmas . Can i also still use my stock tweeters if i get a new deck? I'm going to get an s2k antenna so i don't think i have to worry about the antenna going up and down for the radio.

How do you guys access the speakers? They don't seem to be pop off covers like they are on my civic....i didn't wanna break anything so i didn't try forcing it off.

i got that HU from frys - its a good unit, ive had no problems, its got preouts, remote, front AUX jack, and a helluva price. also check fry's clearence section, i picked up some 6.5'' Infinity Reference Speakers for $30/pair simply because they were last years models...(old packaging)

i suggest you get 3-way speakers for the front. They'll cover you're mid's and high's so you don't have to worry about tweets for the time being. If the
tweeters you have now sound really crappy, disconnect them until you can replace them.

Pioneer has some good 3-way speakers for less than $100, if you find a deal--much less.

No cheapo subs or amps!

When you get into bass quality, even if you're not going for power, cheap subs
run by cheap amps just sound like s***

I'm sure a local sound shop would be willing to work out a lay-away plan.
Pay what you can, when you can they'll prolly work with the pricing too if you ask!

And I'm sure you're still gonna get a decent price like $200-$400 or better, but you'll be getting something you can depend on.

Shop Ubid.com too, great deals, just check condition and warranty 1st

What size speakers do you carry in the rear? (i don't know much about Acura speaker setup)

Aiwa is Sony's sister brand. Although some Sony stuff is good that doesn't mean it trickles down to Aiwas. For $100 you should be able to get Blaupunkts or even a cheap Clarion. For rear speakers get mid-bass drivers.

A question on deck installation. Have any of you guys installed a new deck without getting a new install kit and just using the factory thing? I saw instructions at team-integra.com or something, just wanted to know if that actually works.
Yes. All you need is duct tape. Take the sleeve the HU comes with and duct tape it to the pocket. Stick the thing in bend the tabs on the sleeve and slide the HU in.

My budget for audio equipment right now is around 300 dollars. I wanna get something that sounds better than stock (wtf was acura thinking of putting this crap sound system in this car anyways), then i want to upgrade with an amp and sub maybe for christmas .
Spend $200 on a HU and the remaining on a set of front coaxials. Worry about everything else later.

Can i also still use my stock tweeters if i get a new deck? I'm going to get an s2k antenna so i don't think i have to worry about the antenna going up and down for the radio.
Yes, the tweeters are parallel wired so they'll work without you having to change anything.

How do you guys access the speakers? They don't seem to be pop off covers like they are on my civic....i didn't wanna break anything so i didn't try forcing it off.
You have to remove the door panels and if you change the rear, remove the rear panels. The rear panels are a bitch to remove so you have to be patient with that. The door panels are two screws and a bunch of snaps. Just look around online and you'll find directions. If your new front speakers are deeper than 1 7/8" (most likely) you'll also have to modify the basket.
