So why not start wit a HU that is iPod "ready" so you can control the iPod, [and charge it] from the HU and get much better SQ out of the iPod then you can when just using the headphone adaptor.
As for what amp, subs or speakers, will depend on a few things, like what brands can you get , [what does your B/B carry] it will also depend on the music you listen to and how loud you want it. 94

BTW,I assume we are talking about a teg, what year and what body style?

OIC, Your going to put a $100 Sony Xplod HU in your G/Fs car, [a Lexus] I sure hope that $100 is your deeply discounted "employee discount", even then, I would put my money on the stock HU

There are lots of good amps and subs around R/F POWER series amps are pretty good, they also have a limited edition line, 3 or 4 amps, kind of "old school" looking but very good SQ.
Their POWER series subs are pretty good to, IMO JL Audio makes a better sub and JL Audio amps I would put up against R/F limited edition amps, IMO they are better then R/F POWER series. 94

Have fun bypassing amps and getting the dash kit... I know Best Buy doesn't sell many (if any) kits for any Lexus... And some Lexi don't even have kits...

What year/make/model Lexus are we talking about here?

dont get sony xplod
sony makes shitty car audio products

the nicest hu's in my opinion are pioneer & alpine

the alpine cda-9856 has a high speed ipod cable & its $199 at best buy so with your discount you can have a quality hu for just a lil more than that piece of **** sony one

definately get a mono amp if its just gonna be powering a sub

B18C_ej8 is right. What kind of lexus does your gf have? Personally,
I would stay away from Sony if you could go with a pioneer or alpine.

Yea im just gonna get alpine or pioneer, i think ill probably get like at least 45% on all together, cuz when my brother use to work in audio section and i got a system that ended up being $600 and then with his discount it was like 50% off and was $300, but this guy that im gonna get discount from doesnt work in that section so i dont know if he gets less or the same amount of discount my brother did.

Not to be a dick or anything, but it's pretty important that you find out what year and model before you even buy this ****... Some early 90's Lexus do not have dash kits or wiring harnesses available, so the install will be more than the install bay at Best Buy can handle... Lots of custom work to get a deck in some of those cars.

the point people are trying to get across is that this is not really a job that the employees at best buy are equipped to handle (knowledge, product, or experience wise.)
If it is an LS then they have a dash kit for it, best buy does not carry it, you will have to go to an independant dealer to get it. While you are there talk to them about getting the job done there and getting all of the equipment from them. It will probably be a bigger hassle trying to save a hundred bucks or so by getting it from best buy than its worth. Look into the pioneer Deh-p6800 or Pioneer premier deh-p680 the i-pod integration is fantastic on it, it works just like the spinwheel on an i-pod.

ok i finally kind of decided what to get, let me know if this is a good way for a system, ok first off all best buy doesnt have a dash kit for lexus ls400 year 1990, so im gonna have to get it custom made, gonna go with the Pioneer DEH-4800MP, One 12" Alpine Type R 1500W peak power (500W RMS), and Alpine V-power 400W amp (MRP-M450).

Last questions what kind of wire kit do i need and do i need a capacitor? These are the ones the guy told i need:

Now there's a shock... Try reading the post directly above yours, and the posts I made a few before that....

Oh yeah.. That box SUCKS... I used to install at Best Buy, and that box is HORRIBLE... Sounded like crap, even when the ports were cut to length properly... SO much port noise....

And no, you don't need that amp kit. You can get the 8 gauge single kit... That amp kit in the link is a kit for 2 amps. I don't see 2 amps on your shopping list.... And you don't need that cap, but it won't hurt anything, and for the BB discount, it's a good deal...

but the 8 guage amp kit can only handle up to 500 W peak power is that ok:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/ol...42408

and is this box better than the other one cuz this is the only better one they have:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/ol...84268

and dont need the capacitor but it wont kill the alternator will it cuz its a 1990 car.

My turn again, [now that I know the year and model of the car] the kit and harness are the Metra 99-8158 and 70-1761, yes they are a Toyota kit and harness, although I am no fan of Pioneer it's an OK entry level HU, IMO you could do better with an Alpine, but the sub and amp are OK, however you have a 400W amp running a 500W sub, and although it will work, you would be better off with a 500W amp and a 400W sub.

I agree with B18C_EJ8 don't wast you money on that box, you will blow the back off it in 6mo. 94
