Default Multimeter/tester recommendations

OK this isn't exactly a car audio or security specific question.. but since I'd most likely be using the multimeter for car audio and securty/alarm applications.. what is a good digital multimeter that you guys recommend?

things I would use it for are to test voltages to diagnose problems, continuity on wires, see if connections are good and things are getting voltage.. just to diagnose to see if something is faulty or identify wiring for maybe future alarm installs, or things like faulty solenoids, starter motors, etc.... it will mostly be used 90% for 12V (car) applications.. it would be cool if it can do A/C house current also.. but not necessarily a requirement... oh yeah I'm just an amateur/DIY'er.. so its not going to be used everyday or in an install bay or whatever...

I see them range anywhere from $15-300+... I dont think I need the ones w/ the PC cable capability.. so help me decide on one that will serve my purposes and links would be helpful thanks..

If you are just using it for general purpose stuff just about any of them will do. I have a twenty dollar cheapy that I usually use for the car. One that I don't care if it gets thrown around. I have a $400. Tek that I use when I work on electronics.

I personally use a Fluke for everything, they are expensive, but un-necessary for simple operations.

Go with Nsxextreme's advice and pick up a $10-15 that has the features you need ( they usually come with a nice shock absorbent case too! Motomaster has one for $20 CAD)

It looks like a fluke that craftsmen put their name on. It will do the job just fine.
