MECP Testing question
I am ready to take the MECP basic installer test....i have been for a while. I am wondering if anyone can tell me how it is taken? Im guessing it is on the computer because the website says that the test has to be atleast 24 hours before you take it so i dont think they can get it through the mail that quick...but im just checking on that. I was looking at the times/dates i could do it on and where I could. Im thinking of taking it at the Testing Center at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas since it is the closest to me.
Also, does it give you the score at the time or do I have to wait the 4-6 weeks for the certificate/fail-letter to come in the mail?(btw, im NOT at all worried about failing it). Any info would be helpful.

Geezus! I couldnt tell you how they are done now-dayz...I took the Master Installer test back in 96' and it was with Circuit City. My District Manager watched the whole testing period (a few hours) and I didn't have to pay squat, obviously CC paid for it all. Back then with Circuit City all the installers in my District had to be Certified. (I know things have changed cause Iv'e seen some of the sphagheti that comes out of the Maryland District Stores, unbelievable)

haha yeah, i can totally tell what ur talking about. my friend works at the circuit city around here and he know ppl that sold MP3 players and all that stuff got the job at installing, without any prior knowledge of installing anything....kinda bad
anyways, i foundout that the testing IS done on computers(i emailed the CEA asking them) and the certificate is printed out right there with the score. im pretty much set tho. on the practice tests that i have found on the net iv gotten 100% on all of them. doesnt seem that hard at all, well especially compared to the master installer test that u took

I've seen a lot of crap done by MECP installers too. Just like ASE, it doesn't guarantee that the certificate holder is worth his weight in ****. Some hiring managers are aware of this and will want to see you in action, giving very little consideration to your certificate. My hiring manager was one of those. But then again, I work at one of the best CC locations in San Diego.
I don't know why you were singling out CC, or if it was unintended, but at least we solder everything. BB, Tweeter, and everyone else make some very questionable wire connections. So even if you go to a good location and get a (good) MECP certified installer at let's say Best Buy (which still has a cert program unlike Circuit City), it's still insulated butt connectors so you can't rely on them. On the other hand, if you go to CC, at least you have the opportunity to get a good installer who's going to solder the connections. Or you could DIY, using solder or non-insulated butt connectors and heat shrink, which is something I strongly advocate.

yeah ididnt mean to single out CC...if i hadto chose(around here) between CC and BB to install my car audio, i would have CC do it totally. i do have a chance towork at BB right now, i just didnt take the offer, id rather work at CC. i know what u mean about even if people get the certificate they arent worth crap(some, not everyone). the certificate isnt hard at all to get(dont have mine yet but it doesnt seem hard at all) so basically anyone that can study and has no realworld audio experience can get it. iwish more car audio managers were like your manager
Iv been doin audio stuf for a while now, i just have never gotten the certificate
