Low jack
not sure what the exact price is new, but i can tell you it cost me an extra 250 bucks when i went to buy my crx that was already equiped with it, try going to http://www.lojack.com and getting the number to a lo-jack dealer, im sure you can get all the info you need from there!
My cousin works for lojack. I was just asking him out the price the other day, he said its about $600 but It depends on the the car. I was surprised I thought it cost $1000 or more for lojack. Anyway when Im ready to get it he gets a discount for family and friends so im set.

You can get monthly fees based on the add ons you get....like the extra 5k, etc. Check out lojack.com for the different policies you can get that help you out. I wouldnt mind paying a monthly fee to make sure my car isnt gone every time I go outside...
for just the transmitter or alarm, just installation costs.
if you get the early warning system (I definitely recommend this), you get a monthly charge I think. This system will call you/page you/email you when the car moves without the keyfob.

I forgot to mention that if you do get it you might as well the Early Warning. It lets you know whenever your car is moved by someone without the fob. So even if they try and tow it away you will be notified.

the part that says Boomerang (plastic fob). That's a fob.
They have alarm fobs as well.
"A digital device which is usually found on one's keychain to unlock their vehicle from a distance.
Also used to sound an alarm, or open the cargo compartment for a vehicle.
example:
If I didn't have my fob with me, I'd have to put down my groceries to unlock the car."

But I'd have to use LoJack's alarm if I had early warning, right? If that's how it is, the crackheads are going to disable my alarm and thus the lojack and thus my tracking system... I'd personally love to have a LoJack and Compustar working together WITH early warning, but this isn't possible without heavy modification to the LoJack, right? Or, at the very least, I would have to press both remote controls to deactivate the LoJack and have no option of triggering it from the Compustar's accessory button on the remote, right?
Kind of hard to follow, but I'm sure that you'll understand what I'm asking... Thanks!

um...in my opinion, i believe lo jack is a waste of money. it takes approximately 3 hours to strip an entire car and even longer to for local authorities to respond, depending where you live. besides, i've heard... after you stick the car in a garage, the signal isn't strong enough to penetrate thick walls. i know for the motorcycle lo-jack system this is the case. as for passenger vehicles, people still lose their cars with lo-jack.

I Don't think Lo-jack OR the Early Warning requires you to activate anything. Once it's installed, that's it, No fob, the call center calls you, emails you, or pager. You decide how you want to be contacted.
Lo-jack is just a tracking system. You can run whatever alarm system you want as it is a separate later.
Lo-Jack Early Warning works in conjunction with the Lo-jack tracking system. All the Early warning will do is tell the call center when the fob is not with the car when the car is moving. They will then contact you to make sure you are informed of the violation.
Only way you can turn lo-jack or early warning system is if you know where the system is in your car and you disconnect it.

The thing is, with the early warning system, you'll be warned within 15 min to 1 hour (according to their website). much better response time than not knowing where your car is at all.
If you want to take it to the next level, get yourself a clifford GPS system (or Viper or whatever... all the same). once you know your car has moved with lo-jack early warning, call the clifford number and it will tell you the location of the car as it is moving. You can even track it on the website if you are so inclined.
layered tracking systems is another idea. try to use all the tricks in the book.

Last time I checked Lojack for motorcycles isn't in cali yet(where your description says you live), and has only been out for a couple of months, so how would you go about making that assumption? Actually gps has much more of a problem when it comes to walls, and roofs, then lojack. Lojack is strictly a tracking system. They also offer alarms but they are completely seperate for the lojack so the theive could disable the alarm and it wouldn't affect the lojack at all. Lastly, Lojack has a backup battery so even if it is disconnected it will still continue to work.

I personally don't even like the fact that lojack can track my vehicle via GPS or whatever the hell it is. Its like an invasion of privacy. EVEN though it is used against theft. I won't ever have one.
Its just like that same crap they put in rental cars now. Tracks your speed, where you are. How fast you are accelerating. What you ate for lunch, and when you pissed. Retarded.

Yes, but it's entirely optional. This isn't even like the GPS tracking that insurance companies are pushing for for lower rates. You get this only if you want, and there's not someone watching your every move.
