Default looking for warning light help...

first off, the car is a 2005 xterra, i know its not a honda, but i figured maybe someone would have a clue on whats going on. i just installed a in dash dvd player and nav system. we had a couple problems finding the vss wire for the nav, so ended up cutting into a couple wires that were not the correct one. now, with the wires all connected back up, i have a check engine light, and sometimes an airbag light on. could this be because we disconnected the battery and something reset? or would simply cutting those wires and the splicing them back together cause this? also, after everything was connected back up, the radio seems to have constant power with the car off. they guy i did this for now started cutting wires himself, so i have no idea whats going on now, im just trying to find a solution before i go back there to try to un-f*ck this up. thanks for the help

Well it definitely sounds like something is mis-wired, and if you were cutting and testing wiring at he ECU with the batt. still connected, you may have damaged the ECU, very easy to do on any 05, if this car came into my shop I would remove any aftermarket equipment and try and put all the wiring back to as stock as it can be, [solder and shrink tube any cut wires] try a reboot of the ECU, on most cars you can do this by disconnecting both the pos. and neg. batt. term. ground the pos. batt. clamp to the chassis or the neg. batt. clamp, [same thing] leave it that way for 5 to 10 min, connect the pos. term. first, then the neg. term. The ECU should reboot, [if there is nothing wrong with it] also check and see if the car, like most Honda/Acuras, has a engine check light reset button someplace under the dash.
If non of this works, you will have to take the car to a dealer and have them do a diagnostic on it. 94
