Default Kicker KS693 speakers

ok i bought a pair of 6by9 kicker speakers (ks693 3 way) for my 96 civic coupe. the speakers have 300/100RMS watt power. I installed them yesterday which was a pain in the *** and i cant believe that they sound like my original speakers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the kickers' magnets are like 80% bigger than stock magnets but they produce the same kind of sound; i dont feel much of an improvement. my head unit is an old kenwood 35*4. is it suppose to be like this? my stock speakers are only 15 watt and kickers are 300/100RMS but not much of a difference in sound. did i screw up somewhere? i was thinking of replacing my head unit but when they can even handle 35*4 how they are going to handle 50*4 or more? i am maddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd

You should notice a diff., not a huge one, and mostly in high frequency response, as it is still the same amp that is driving them, [HUs internal amp],.

I would look to make sure the speakers are installed and wired properly, first I would make sure they are wired in phase, easy to test for, fade all the way to the back, then balance from center all the way to the left and then to the right and back to center, [both speakers], if you get better bass response when you are on the left or right speaker then you do when both left and right speakers are on, the rear speakers are wired out of phase, switch the speaker leads on one of the speakers, it does not matter which one.
I would also make sure the speakers are mounted properly, sitting flat, with an airtight seal all the way around, ideally on a gasket made out of a 1sqft piece of Dynamat, [or the like].

BTW, a 3way speaker is not what you should be installing in the back of your car, but that's another issue. 94
