Keeping Steering wheel controls
Now this isn't on a Honda but I figured it should be the same adapter for a Honda and thats what I'm asking about. I just put a Alpine 9830 in my 01 Dodge Ram and miss the steering wheel controls already. I was looking at these two adapters

and
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-m...7SWIX
the first one says it's for Alpines but also said it has to have a wired remote and my doesn't it is wireless so I'm thinking I will need the second one. I'm just wondering if anyone is using them and how they work? Do they work as well as the factory stereo does with them? I was worried with the wireless remote one that it would not reach to it half the time but idk. Just wondering if anyone had used one and how they work?

the swi-alp does not need a remote to program since it is not an ir type interface, but they dont tell you once you plug it in it will not allow the ir input on the face to work anymore for a remote. the swix, you will need to have an alpine remote to program it, as it stores the ir codes from the remote and then repeats them from its on ir emitter. although the best mounting you would think is to point the ir at the face, at my work we install the ir in the dash kit or the radio trim panel , on the drivers side pointing at the driver. that way the ir bounces off the driver and back at the radio. hasnt failed us yet. oh and make sure the engine is running when you program it, the buttons in the wheel are usually different resistances, and the swix records the voltage drops across each when the buttons are pressed, since the voltage is usually higher when the engine is running it will cause the drops to be slightly different, and the swix will pick up on it. hope this helps.
According to Crutchfield, the Pac SWI -ALP will work in your car but the new HU must have a wired remote input... http://www.crutchfield.com/S-6...WIALP and the Alpine CDA-9830 does not.
The Pac SWI-X will work.
