Spent a few hours trawling through this site trying to find any info pertaining to getting the JDM Gathers sat nav systems to work outside of Japan.

Basically i can get my hands on a nice Gathers unit, but whats the point if it wont work i hear you cry. Well somebody mentioned the OS boots up with the CD. Now if the cd can be read, the OS located, and the maps separated, surely the maps can be updated with the latest local ones. Or would a straight phonecall to Alpine/Gathers be a better option.

No flaming please just because its JDM, over here in Australia we aren't as obsessed with JDM as you fellas as every other car here is a JDM import.

 

For what it's worth, I have personally never heard of anyone getting the unit to work over here. If you came up with a new OS CD that would I would work, I'd think it would be pretty marketable. Although, not sure how legal said marketing would be.
