Or would i have to get the pioneer adaptor box and the pioneer ipod cord. I dont care if i can control the ipod from the head unit, i just want to beable to listen to my ipod. I just need to know if it will hook up to my head unit before i buy it...

why no look into the PAC to pioneer adapter in the car accessories section. It uses the IP bus jack on the back of the radio. the sku is 9040557.

cuz i really dont care if the song list doesnt come on my head unit. not that big of a deal, i just wana listen to my ipod in my car...
And no the 2nd cable will not do what you want to do.
If you mean the DEH-P780MP... http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/vg...tionManual.pdf then yes you can use the first linked iPod adapter, the stereo 3.5, [mini jack] AUX input is on the back of the HU. 94

ya so i use the red and white cable plug, put it in the back and run it to the front. But i have one more question, if i do use the red and white cable do i have to change any settings on the head unit to listen to music on the ipod or when i plug it in will it just start to play?

Just to clarify:
If you deck has an AUX input, get the cable that goes from the mic jack on your ipod to 2 RCAs (Red & white). Plug those 2 RCAs into the AUX inputs on your deck. Switch the deck to AUX and done deal.

The AUX input on the Pioneer DEH-P780MP is a 3.5 mini stereo jack, the adapter cord the OP linked in his firs post is the correct one.94

the keys should have came with the headunit.
if you lost them or something, you can go to best buy and if they have a set they will give them too you for free. at least my best buy did, i lost the keys to my alpine HU and they hooked me up.

I ordered the cable that you need to make it work. Only problem is that the ipod will not charge this way. Nor will you be able to control the ipod thru the radio or read text.

if you want your ipod pick up an alpine deck that has full speed,

yes it will work with your radio and you are correct the songs wont show up...its basically an audio input jack for the pioneer that's shaped to fit the ipod.
Now as for charging the ipod it depends on what model (gen ) you have. Apple changed the position of the firewire pin in the ipods...so if you have a new nano, newer classic,3rd gen touch or 2nd gen iphone they wount charge through the "legacy" (older) products. thats probably my biggest beef with apple to date.
