Default interior rattles

I was wondering if any of you guys could privide some suggestions for quieting down the interior panels of my 94 GS-R. They rattle and creak over bumps and it drives me crazy, makes me feel like my car is a POS. Everything from the dashboard to the roof to the hatch and the doors rattles and creaks and bitches. I know this has nothing to do with audio or security, but I figured you guys would have the most experience in this area. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Prepare to spend some quality time with your car.

Strip everything down.

Lube as necessary.

Rebuilt and retorque to specs.

While you're at it you can dynamat everything, rustproof the chassis, spray some expanding foam into hard to reach areas, etc.

Thanks a lot for the help. Just some questions: What should I look at to lube up? About this expanding foam, can I spray it between the plastic panels and the metal of the body (so the damn panels have no where to go to rattle or creak)? Where can I get it and how much does it weigh/cost? Also, how do I rust proof the chassis? I'm not so much about quieting down the interior at this point as I am about making it to where I don't hear the panels creak and rattle. If I could achive that I would be vary happy . Thanks again for your help so far, it is greatly appreciated.

Try to identify where the sounds are coming from first. Generally if it's coming from a screw use loctite. Anything else use grease (teflon or moly will do). Most rattles are due to loose screws or loose/broken fasteners. Creaks could be from suspension pivot points, body panels, basically anything that can move. Isolate the problem areas first, fixing it shouldn't be hard. If you have the time take the dash off there's usually a load of noises coming from it that need to be taken care of. Also check the spare tire it's notorious for making noises in Tegs.

You can spray the expanding foam anywhere there's space. Don't spray it where you have moving parts or heat sensitive electronics (inside doors, ECU, etc) Get it from a home improvement store in the plumbing section. It's around $6 a can and weighs next to nothing after it expands.

To rust proof, place the car on jack stands. Now there's two ways to do this, you can do the cheap way and just spray oil on the chassis (avoid the high heat areas like the exhaust area). Keep in mind this will only rust proof the car for about a year. For a more thorough job you need the wax based rust proofer that you spray inside the door, fenderwell, etc. Get that done at a shop.
