You will need a high to low converter if your amp doesn't have high level inputs. THis isn't the preferred way, but if you are running stock deck to other speakers this will be just fine for a sub.

It is not recommended. But it also depends on the type of sub and amp you are going to run. The stock radio only gives you like 15-20 watts if you go with an after market radio it can give you anywhere from 30-50 watts which will give you a bit more output when running an amp with sub so it will sound a bit better when you start cranking up your radio. If you had a stock radio you are limiting yourself of output from your amp and subs so it will sound low or like crap. But I say give it a go if your just wanting some bass to get you by!!

You deserve the "most uninformed member" award, or the boy that buys into all the crap that ghetto audio shops feed you. #1, aftermarket headunits put out 22w RMS, MAX. No ifs, ands, or buts. It's a fact. Live with it. All manufacturers advertise peak power and not RMS power. This is probably similar to what a stock headunit puts out. #2, when you use a line out converter, there is VERY LITTLE DRAW on the headunit amplifier and output wattage is irrelevant. Since you are powering the speakers off an external amplifier, the line out converter only takes a signal from the headunit, and if you stay under the clipping point of the headunit, an OEM unit could sound just as good as any aftermarket unit (assuming internal signal processing is equal in quality).

sorry im not a techincal loser when it ocmes to stereos. . im asking. ..you didnt know at one time either, or did you. or did ur mom have u like that cus i was smarter when i pulled out of her too.
Riiiiiiight. Ummm, I dont know how in the hell you even came into this equation because he wasnt talking about you. He was talking about CIVIX, and basically he was tryin to say that CIVIX didnt have a clue what he was talking about so he would have been better off to not even contribute to this post. So to answer the question intelligently as it was already answered above.......YES you can add an amp to a stock radio, all you need is a hi/lo adapter that you can get at just about any car audio retailer. Dont pay any more than $20 for it cause soe shops will try to get you for like $50 for one. And NO it will not put a large about of draw on your stock stereo.
