Installing an alarm system
How hard is it to install a "high" end alarm system from DEI or another reputable company with a remote car starter?
Possibly hiding the brain under the back seat?
Oh, its a 2000 accord coupe

Not hard at all. Just take your time, and take care to properly identify the wires you'll need to extend.
On that car, I believe you have to tap wires on both sides of the dash... I had to go to the passenger side fuse box for locks & door triggers on my '02 Accord, so beware of that...
Edited to add that you'll also need the module to bypass the factory immobilizer... You can use the programmable one for Hondas or the universal one (which requires your spare key be placed inside the box)... Either way, the car won't start remotely without the immobilizer bypass... But you could always be lazy like me and just leave your spare key in the ignition...
The alarm has starter & ignition kill and a fuel pump kill switch so I'm not worried...

haha you just leave your spare key in the ignition?
how much is the programable imobalizer vs the universal?
Or is the stock system a fairly good alarm system?

I agree... <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by B18C_EJ8 »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Not hard at all.</TD></TR></TABLE> although I would not install it under the rear seat, that will mean extending almost all, [99%] of the wires, some of them "high current", [ign. switch harness wires].
You will need a bypass module, more and better types are coming out all the time, the newest ones do not need the spare key and are connected to the diagnostic port, [one wire] and depending on bypass module and car they can do as little as just bypass the OEM immobilizer and as much as interfacing the key-less entry, oem alarm, light flash, trunk release and dome light supervision.
Is your car an auto or 5 speed?
No, the stock alarm is not a "fairly good alarm system" it is a good "backup"/layer when interfaced with a good aftermarket alarm.

My car is a 2000 accord coupe v6 auto
What would be a good place to place the brain than? since i have read many posts on here stating not to simply place it under the dash. and i would not like to compleatly take apart my dash either to hide it behind that. But i understand what your saying about it being anoying to extend all of the wires, and i would most likely manage to mess that up lol.
If you could provide a link to a nice alarm system with the imobolizer, something that is compaitble with the "in car siren" and a backup battery.
i would say my budget is $400-$500 for the alarm and imoblizer, backup battery and siren, is that too low? because if so, it isnt too dificult to come up with more funds, just a matter up time
And one last question. Say i wasnt sure of my ability to tap into all of these wires in the car, what would be an expected amount to pay to have an alarm installed?

Both DEI... http://www.directed.com/ and Compustar... http://www.compustar.com/ make very good alarm/remote start systems, [IMO the Compustar is the better of the two] and with that budget you should be able to find a better then entry level system from either manufacturer, [even from an authorized retail dealer, the only way I recommend you should buy an alarm/remote start system.
All I can tell you is what we charge, we charge 5hr @ $40.00 per hr., [and $4.00 per hr. or portion thereof shop mat] for basic install, in your case another 1.5hr would be charged to install the bypass module and interface the OEM alarm.
That's $326.88 tax in, and that would be with all soldered connections and as "stealthy" as can be made without pulling the dash completely off.
Options like door lock interface, backup batt., extra sirens and sensors, starter/ign. "kills" and window/sun roof modules are extra, starting a .5 hr.
A full on stealth system will double the price, [basic with bypass and OEM alarm interface $653.76 tax in] it will "look" stock, the install quality does not change, only the amount of time to install it and where it is installed and how the wiring is run and where it is connected changes.
A "full load" full stealth alarm/remote start can cost in excess of $2500 for labour alone.
If you are paying less then $250, your getting a hell of a deal, a shitty, [punched out] install, or you are a 5'2" blond, blue eyed, single hotty, that got the quote from an installer that wants a date.

Aftter reading https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1794938 i feel that i can do the install myself, all i need is a warm garage to do it in.
Would placing the "brain" under the cub holders be a good place as noted in that write up? or where would you recomind placing the "brain"?
Also would any of these be worth while?

compustar 2WFM-AS (what is the price at your shop? cant find prices around here)

On my sister accord I put the brain in the dash. Its in a location were you can not get to you just have to look. On your car you have to go to both sides to tag all the wires that you need. Its not that hard but time consuming. Under the center consol is fine. As long as you can't get to it quickly. You quality is going to be up to you.

I guess through all of this i should point out that i dont live in high risk area at all, there is virtually no crime in my town, i mean there is crime, but not many cars get stolen...So honestly im not sure how "stealthy" my install needs to be, if i were to get
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm...il.do
say something like that^^ and just have CC install it, i know the quality of the install depends on the location, but for the most part would that be an alright thing to do? or is just that much better to invest my time and do it myself?

compustar 2WFM-AS (what is the price at your shop? cant find prices around here)</TD></TR></TABLE> The Compustar 2WSS-AS is a very good alarm, not sure about US price but the EBay price is about 50% of retail, however you will not get any manufacturers warranty or tech support... http://www.compustar.com/internet_sales.htm
Any place in the car for the brain is OK if it fits, what you want to avoid is, once installed, if you look up under the dash is to see the alarm brain and all the alarm wiring, if a crook can see the alarm brain he can unplug it, [defeat/bypass it].
I would find a location for the brain that allows the wires of the main ign. switch harness, [C1 on Compustar] to reach their connection points without extending them, keep in mind even though both the DEI and Compustar units are very good, "if something can go wrong it will" make sure the brain is "serviceable", it can be pulled out and unplugged and wiring/connectors can be tested, having them in a place that makes that difficult is a problem and will make troubleshooting hard and time consuming.

that is a good point. what percentage of the units that you install come back for service?
is it likely that something will go wrong? i have purchased many things off of ebay mostly car stereo equipment, subs amps, caps. none of which i have had problems with (knock on wood, me knocking now lol)

You have been very lucky not to have had a problem, but from what I read here and other sites, and customers that come to my shop with a problem, is nothing but a lot of grief, not that there are not "good" sites/sellers, even authorized online dealers, but that does not seem to be the norm.

if i were to get a compustar or dei from "wrx-killer-Sti eater" would that be considered a purchase from an authorized dealer? than if i tool it to my local authorized dealer and asked them to install it. would i still get the lifetime warenty?
