Infinity Reference-Rear Deck-Installation Gone Bad
Well, I've just spent the last four hours contorting my body in the trunk and back seat of my car and haven't even successfully completed a what... half hour job?
I'm trying to install Infinity Reference 6952i 6" X 9" coaxial speakers into the rear deck of my '95 Integra LS 4dr. I'm having some problems. Please help me. First, these are supposed to be drop-in replacements; same size as stock and all. But my Infinity's came with long-*** black screws and these other gold-ish things that I don't even have the energy to explain what they look like. The problem with the black screws is that they have a different threading than the stock screws and therefore do not screw in with ease. The other problem is that the Infinity's are about 1/8" too big at all the holes once you get one screw in. Am I going to have to redrill all the holes for these speakers? And if so, how does one go about putting a sturdy screw into sheet metal? Is there any way to mount these speakers without screws? Just a thought... I'd really like to clean this mess up asap.

Short story: stock screws aren't long enough
Long story: there are multiple layers of stuff to bolt down - you are screwing down both the speaker itself and the mount for the grille, and the stock screw just isn't long enough, plus the fact that I just about stripped them taking them out in the first place, plus that little annoying 1/8" misalignment. The 1/8" is what is really screwing me.

And hey, while you are hearing me bitch, read about how my car rolled down a mountainside today and survived! https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=258299

Well, I guess pictures won't help too much. How about going to a hardware store and trying to find screws of the proper thread and sufficient length?
The real problem is that once I get one corner of the Infinity's screwed in, all the other screws are about 1/8" off the mark! Please tell me how to mount these bitches, because a shop wants $45 to do it.

I'm sure for $45 a shop will just drill some new holes and mount them with bolts, with nuts on the underside. So: secure the speaker to the deck by the rearmost eyelet (closest to the window), and while the speaker is sitting there, use the other eyelets as guides to drill new holes in the deck. Once you have holes that line up, make sure there is a layer of foam or rubber (might come with the speakers) to insulate the baffle. Then take some long bolts and nuts and just screw em down. Then throw the covers over them.
Hope this helps.

What if I can't fit the drill in the space? This is on a 4-dr with a fixed rear window, and I won't be able to hold my power drill above where the speaker is...
