More info....
What kind of car is this going into?
What kind of music will you be playing?
What else does your audio system consist of, [makes and models]?
Do you have a link to the "audioque HD 12"?
Is that the make and model number of the subs... http://www.audioque.com/aq/HDSeries.htm these ones?
If so.... a pr. of JL Audio 1000/1s would work... http://mobile.jlaudio.com/prod...d=221 you did say "a good amp" right?
The Audison VRx 1.500 is also a pretty good sub amp... http://www.audison.com/default.asp?lang=eng, you will need 2 of them also. 94

haha i feel out of place cause i dont have a honda...
1993 lexus gs300

mostly rap and metal

i haven't purchased anything yet for my system,
i am thinking of the two audioque hd12 subs, http://www.audioque.com/aq/HDSeries.htm in a ported enclosure.

an eclipse 8445 headunit or an alpine cda-9856, http://www.woofersetc.com/inde...=3934
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-i...A9856

and i was looking at cdt hd52 speakers, http://www.woofersetc.com/inde...=1115

i was wondering about sundown amps, i heard they are pretty good.

sundown SAZ-1500D

The subs I have heard but never installed, but they sound OK and the specs look good, although two 12" in a ported box will take up some room.

Both the Eclipse and the Alpine HUs are very good units, the Alpine is a current model and the Eclipse is not, [last years I believe] I would stick with the Alpine, but I would look at the CDA-9820XM... http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/p...820XM or the CDA-9857... http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/p...-9857

I have installed more then a few CDT speakers, and IMO they are better then average.

I have never heard of SUNDOWN AUDIO, but then again it was founded in 06, very new company.

I linked you to a couple other Alpine HU, because the rest of the equipment was above average and the Alpine CDA-9856 is more of an entry level Alpine, the Alpine DVA-9861 is the one I would go with... http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/p...-9861 unless you have lots of cash, then the DVA-9965 would be the one... http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/p...-9965 then again if you have stupid amounts of cash, you can do no better then the Alpine F1 Status DVI-9990... http://www.alpinef1status.com/....html

The point I am trying to make is your sound systems SQ is determined by the quality of the HU driving it, EG; spending $400 on speakers and only $200 on a HU is not the way to go because SQ is limited by the HU.

When designing a sound system the first thing to look at is your source, [HU] everything will depend on it, then your amplification and then speakers.

BTW... none of the above is any good without a proper install, and that works the other way around, speaker install is crucial, then amp install, [wiring] then the HU install, technical as long as amps and HU are wired properly the amps and HU could sit on the front seat and still sound as good as if installed and/or mounted, this is obviusly not the case with the speakers/subs. 94

yeah my main goal wasnt sq from the subs, i wanted loud, deep bass with decent sq.

i figured that adding nicer speakers would give me some more sq.

how much room would a pair of 12's ported would take up?

i will probably go with the CDA-9861 cause i don't have that much money to spend right now and im not planning on getting a monitor in my car so i wont need the DVD.

how do you think the subs would sound in a 4th order bandpass? will that take more room?

I could not find "recommended" enclosure type/size at there site, you will have to use the T/S parameters and a box program or contact them for more info.

Sealed boxes are the smallest, [and easiest to build] with bandpass being the biggest [and hardest to build] again I could not find info on box type.

The 9861 is a DVA-9861 not a CDA-9861. 94

amen on that On the enclosure I would use what ever the subs designer made them for. Even thou the program can get you one that would work the sound is not that great. I failed at this attempt and wasted money on our civic trying to put speakers in a enclosure that it was not ment for. It sounded better in the given one rather then what the program gave me. Also a bandpass hates errors with a passion. Go with a ported or sealed enclosure.

Can you do me a favor and look to see if your gas tank is between the seat and the trunk. I did a lexus and ran into this problem. Hit will hit thou but not as hard. I ended up building a ported enclosure and fireing the ports thru the back deck. Knocked right and harder.

yeahhh the gas tank is there, so i dont have a lot of space. i had the same idea tho, i was going to have the installer create a port connecting the trunk and the cabin right between the top of the back seat and the back window, and maybe seal it off from the gas tank area? what do you think??

no i am talking about the enclosure port being fired into the cabin of the car. Sort of like whats in my sig. It would be a ported enclosure not a band-pass order. Not just cutting a hole in the deck to open the trunk into the cabin
