how does installing sub backwards work?
i see a bunch of people with pictures of their subs facing inwards. Like in the trunk facing the seats. i was wondering how you install that and would the subs be baffled? thanks

Being that the subs are in the trunk anyway, they're "muffled" from your ears in all cases. Moving them around in the trunk usually only moves the sweet spots around. It can also help trunk rattling slightly, but only if they're far forward and aimed forward.
im no expert in any means but this is what i understand...a reg sub should always be in a box, it needs some sort of pressure to operate to its full potential and maintain its life...now they do make "free air" subs that dont need this pressure and can be mounted anywhere and not have a sealed box?
Usually, facing the inwards makes them sound worse. Sound (but moreso bass) works with acoustics. Meaning the waves have to bounce around before they get to your ear. Like if you ever look at a sub playing head on, you don't really hear any bass at all, just the sound of the actual sub moving, but then when you close the trunk, that is when you hear all the bass.
Same applies, you want the waves from your sub to bounce around as much as it can before it gets to you.
My advise-have the sabs face the rear of the car.

It all depends on the application. As long as you seperate the front wave from the rear..it will be fine. In some cases sharing the same space as the subs output
wave can create less wasted energy (ie buzzing panels) and a richer deeper bass.
