Default How do I protect the hood and hatch?

Okay, how do I protect the hood and hatch?

I suppose I could use hood locks, but where do find it. Plus is there anything a bit more stealth looking rather than the hood locks that are drilled into the hood similar to hood pins?

How effective is using a switch to set off the alarm when the hood is up?

Also, what is the proper way to power the alarm brain. I mean, wouldn't it be quite obvious if the wires are directly connected to the posts on the battery?

DEI makes a hoodlock, the 566T. Forget hood pins for the hood. They tend to be high maintainance and unreliable. The alarm's 12V+ source should be from either one of the two fuseblocks. There's no need to tap 12V off the battery for such a low current draw device.

Thanks dc24me, you've been a big help in my decision/research.

A question about this DEI unit. How does it work? And can I use it in conjuction with my Clifford unit?

Glad to be of help.

It's a cable that has a lock under your dash and when you unlock it, it pulls a slider allowing you to unlatch the hood. You screw an L-shaped bracket to the hood itself and the cabled-latch mechanism gets bolted to the radiator support. It's similar to the hood release mechanism. If you can find a GOOD shop, it should take about 3 hours to do it right. It may cost you up to $200 to get it done, but it's worth it. Since it's mechanical, you don't need to worry about compatability with your alarm or any other alarm. It's pretty old school from what I heard....

If you are referring to the hood latch, then yes. Most aftermarket carbonfiber hoods (Fiber Images, BKNW) do have the hood latch so that it may be closed like stock. Although some latches are inferior and may serve you best to use hood pins as well.

How about a Hatch Lock? is there such thing? I saw Trunk Locks which I beleive do the same purpose but look kinda ghetto. Just like hood pins....
Is there some way of using the same theory with hood locks for hatch locks?

I would imagine that you could rig DEI's unit onto the hatch somehow. But I haven't laid eyes on the unit, so I cannot be certain.

For complete stealthness, just have the trunk keyhole shaved.

The lock I'm talking about is in addition to the factory hood release. The mechanical hood lock requires a lock to be undone from and inconspicious and difficult to reach location under the dash.
The L-shaped steel plate/bracket is bolted to the frame of the hood and several holes should be drilled for the screws. What are the frames of most CF hoods made of anyway? CF? Fiberglass? Either way, use plenty of screws to made sure the hood is near impossible to pry apart with a crow bar.
