Default How do I get my subs to work?

Hey

I just got 2 tens in a box for free from a friend, but I dont know what to do to get them working

They say "The Punch Classic" or something on them. I dont care how good or shitty they are, since they were free along with a box.

Anyone heard of these? What channel and WATT amp would I need? I have an alpine wiring kit already installed, so I would need an alpine amp right? If the alpine amp is gonna cost me an arm and a leg, would it be worth it to get a different wiring kit installed?

Thanks!

No man, you can go with any amp you like. Im guessing youre looking for a 2 chanel amp (1 for each sub)

It would really help if you could give some info on the make and model of your subs or our help wont be very good

If your overpower they will blow
If you underpower they wont move

Just run outside and get that, maybe even measure your box and give us the measurments, and if it has a port (hole) somewhere in the box

Ok they are Rockford Fosgates as I just saw the symbol 2 seconds ago haha.

I have no idea what model they are, it just says Punch Classic, and my friend doesnt know either.

It has 2 ports, and my friend suggested plugging one with a towel.

So theres no way to find out what kind of amp I need?

You dont need to find out what amp dude, any amp will work. Go on ebay and search for amps, anything 2 channel and 350-2000 watts will be fine. For Fosgates Id be happy with a generic 500-800 watt amp. Shouldnt cost more than $150

Whah headunit (cdplayer) are you using?

They can if not run properly, look at some competition stereos, 2 subs and a wall of amps.

All depends on the setup

ported box doesn't need a whole lot of pwr to run them. If the box is split chambers and you stuff one port with a towel then you make one side sealed and the air volume in the chamber might be too big for a sealed enclosure and you'd need more pwr. A 500+ watt amp would be fine. If they're 8ohms that'd be great too so you can bridge them and get a good bit of pwr outta the amp

Wow, I haven't seen any punch classics since high school, and I graduated 5 years ago!

Brings back memories of running power wires through door jams and trying to get away with ATC fuses at the battery because we didn't want to spend money on AGU fuse holders. I still can't believe some of the **** we tried to get away with back in the day.

Just find an amp you can get cheap used. It doesn't really matter what kind or how big, because punch classics can't handle **** for power. This way you can learn from the install mistakes you are bound to make without damaging any high dollar stuff.

Do an internet search for install advise, so you don't do some of the stupid things we used to do.

Good luck noob and remember to have fun.

I think it is pretty ****** stupid that everybody is telling you to "just buy what you fell like". In fact, it is someof the stpidest advise I have heard in a long time.

You need to find out the specs of the subs and buy an amp based on that.

It doesn't seem you know much about audio, but there is something else you need to do if you plan on using your stock deck.

1) Get a line out converter, which will convert your speaker outputs to RCA's to run to the amp.

2) Get an amp that has high level inputs, so you can run your speaker outputs directly into the amp.

3) Get an aftermarket deck that has RCA outputs.

Now, you may already have a line out converter because you said your car is wired, but I've never seen an amp kit that cam with it when you buy it.
