Honda OEM Sub
Maybe it's just me. On some stations, it seems like the bass is way too strong that when they talk, it sounds like a drone (Sorry, I don't know the proper audio term, but you know exactly what I'm talking about.)
So what I do is to turn the Sub setting to -1. That works for me.
To understand this better, what exactly is happening with a negative setting?
I understand the + side. It adds more juice to the sub, so it product a strong bass sound.
With a negative setting, does it then take away, or cancel out the bass? Or there is really no negative.
Meaning:
-5,-4,-3,-2,-1,C,+1,+2,+3,+4,+5
Is really:
0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 Where zero (0) is off.

Let me try my question again.
If C is the normal setting for the sub. And +5 is the highest. So is -5 the Off setting or does the sub sort of work backwards to produce a negative bass sound?
What you are adjusting is the gain. Negative simply means to reduce the power output (amplitude, actually) for that specific frequency range. What the numbers displayed actually correspond to is up to the manufacturer and should not be interpreted to mean much of anything.
