Help Me Out With A Sub + Amp Question...
I'm in the middle of shopping for some, actually one 12" sub plus an amp.
I'm NOT a bass freak but I would like to hear some thump when I turn it up.
So my question is...is 250w gonna be loud enough to drive one 12"?(to my liking?)
Or should I get something like a 350w?
Also, can you run more power than the sub's actual recommended power range(RMS)? Is there a down side to doing this?
Thanks.

I had two 12's driven by 400w in the ITR. It was enough to vibrate the mirrors out of position. So to answer your question, 250w is plenty sufficient to drive the sub, unless the sub is a power hungry ****. If you can get 350w to drive the sub, then by all means go ahead.
Yes, you can run as much power as your want to a sub. As long as there isn't any distortion (check your crossovers and gain settings) it's extremely hard to destroy a sub by overpowering it.

250W for one 12 is one hella of a sub and you may be getting more bass than you bargined for but you can always turn down the gains one the amp to what ever level you like, if you havent already found your sub amp combo. i would sugest using a JL audio 12W3 sub they perfom great and have a great warranty as far as amps goes JL also make a 250W amp that would just pound if you set iup right. and bye the way if that is your picture atached to your screen name you fine. anyways 250w is plenty of power and you should be very hapy with the tump you receive.

I'm currently running an Audiobahn 1000watt 12" sub off of a 300 watt amp and letme tell you that thing gets loud! I would never want any more.
hey 98 GS-R, does your **** thing on your rf amp really make a difference when you turn it up? i'm asking this because i have the same amp on my car and it doesn't seem to make any difference.
I just recently put a Power 150.1 on my 2 JL 10w0's in a band pass box... Its so much power, it's dumb. I also have the RF bass boost... it pumps up the bass something furious. I'll probably mount it, but I doubt that I'll use it that much. The system simply pounds...

I think it would help the most if you give us a definite price range that you are willing to work with. That will help narrow down the choices for subs and amps.

I'm looking to spend around $400 for one 12" and an amp.
A local shop is sayin' that I should get a RF Power 400.4 to run my components and the sub. Is 200w gonna be loud enough in this case?
Any other recommendations?

that's fine. i have ~400w going into my 10" Alumapro Alchemy =D http://www.calpoly.edu/~hyu/98R-1144/PPIChrome.jpg
I have 1 12in Infinity Perfect w/ a 400w PPI amp. Chicks dig it. I would like to try pushing 2 12's w/ the same amp just for a comparison. Then again, I would also like to boost 20psi just for comparison. Dont go less than 200W for any decent 12in, if you do, you might as well run a 10in and save space.
