Help with ITR cluster!
the mileage gauges on my itr cluster recently doesn't work. the gauge that displays the mileage of the car and the one that displays trip mileage both don't work. they suddenly don't scroll. I checked the wiring from the back and all the connectors are plugged in properly.
Is it cable or VSS?
Is it just the mileage and trip meters, [speedometer works]?
Will the trip meter "zero" or is it already at 000?
If speedo is working then the problem is internal, if it is a cable gauge cluster it is a mechanical problem, [broken/stripped gear/sprocket] if it is a VSS cluster it may be electrical, [no power/ground/signal to "drive module", maybe drive motor N/G] or it can be mechanical, something broken.
Either way, the cluster will need to be opened up/disassembly to check.
A simple thing to look for if you suspect it is an electrical problem, [no electrical experience of any kind needed] is damage from heat, lots of heat will burn things, [circuit board traces and components] they will look burnt and damaged, easy to spot.
The why that trace or component burnt and was damaged is a different story, sometimes even that is easy to spot, most of the time it is not, knowledge of electronics and use of it's tools will make finding the problem easier.
If you suspect it's mechanical then again, it should be easy to spot damage.
If you do not feel comfortable pulling your cluster apart, you may want to look up local cluster "repair shops" or even send it out, we send all our clusters needing repairs we can't do to a place in Winnapeg Manitoba, I am sure you can find a place that can fix it.
Last but not least, replace it. 94
